Runny Poo We have a 3 month old yorkie and we've been having a lot of problems with him. His stools almost always seem runny and he seems to go a lot. We don't know if its the food were feeding him or if its something else. We feed him innova puppy. The runny stools is a big problems because when we leave we have to keep him in a kennel and he soils his kennel quite often. Well then we have to give him a bath and sometimes we have to bathe him twice a day. We're kinda new to the puppy thing and were just wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions. We tried closeing off his kennel to so he doesn't have much room but it doesn't seem to matter he still goes and gets it everywhere. Please Help:confused: |
Could be he has an allergy to something in his diet and it could be upsetting his little system. Was this what the breeder had been feeding him before you brought him home? Or did you just cold-turkey and give him this Innova diet upon bringing him home? Could be a number of things. Things to definitely watch out for is blood in the stools. I would call the vet if you have not already done so and maybe take in a sample of the stool to have checked out. Also make sure he is drinking enough water as they can dehydrate so quickly. Good luck and keep us posted. Hope he improves soon!:nursing: |
Forgot to mention this but :welcome4: to YT and congratulations on your new furbaby!:aimeeyork |
They only have runny stools if they are sick. He needs to be seen by the vet to make sure there isnt something serious that is giving him diahrea. They wll give him meds that should clear it right up |
We initially mixed his diamond puppy food with the innova because that is what the breeder was feeding him but now we are feeding him just innova. Do you know if it is normal that a puppy will soil his kennel, because our other dog, which is not a yorkie, only did it once and then she stopped. We feel like maybe he just can't hold it, is that a possibility? The vet told us to mix canned pumpkin with his food but we haven't seen much change. |
We initally mixed the innova with the food that breeder was feeding him which was diamond, but are now just feeding him the innova. We were curious if it is normal for a yorkie to soil in their kennel? We have another dog, which is not a yorkie and she only soiled her kennel once and then never did it again. We feel like maybe he just can't hold it, is that a possibility? Also the vet told us to mix in some canned pumkin but we really haven't seen much change. |
They cant hold it if it is diahrea. That vet really should see him and give you some meds |
Time to get a new vet ! I would insist on being seen- something is making your dog sick. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I think were taking him tomorrow, he also vomitted twice today. The only thing is its very difficult for us to tell because his temperment seems so normal, he runs and plays a lot, he sleeps a normal amount and hes not dehydrated. Could there be a possibility of worms? I guess were just really strugling with this little guy and we appreciate all the help. |
Welcome... And, puppies and dogs do not run temps like human kids do so that is not always an indicator for how sick they are. Your baby needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Diarrhea AND vomiting are signs of several different diseases any of which can cause your puppy to go down in a few hours.. Do not try to self treat as you have said you are new to the puppy thing. Yorkies are not the easiest in the world to house-train under normal circumstances and when a baby has diarrhea, it cannot hold it so it will soil the crate constantly. Bathing a puppy twice a day also is not good for its skin so that is another reason you need to take that baby, along with a stool specimen, to your vet ASAP... Also, if the puppy has been sick since you brought it from the breeder, first notify the breeder and second, ask the breeder for advice. A responsible breeder will go thru all of the possible problems you can have and the treatment as well as when you should go to the vet with the baby...this needs to be done when you select the puppy and again when you bring it home.... |
 Any word yet on your puppies condition? |
We took our little Ricky to the vet and turns out he has whip worm, which can't be easily detected under the microscope. So luckly as gross as it sounds we've been watching his stools and our vet was able to diagnois him based on our descriptions. We got him some medicine and hopefully all will be good. Thank you so much for all your help and concern, without all your advice we probably would have just changed his food. Our vet said the innova which we've been feeding him is an excellant food and so we are going to stick with it. |
