how often do you take your yorkie for grooming? is once a week or twice a month better?? i do notice that after 4 days agapi starts smelling.. er... a little strong:D |
I give Jazzie a bath once a week myself. I also do most of the grooming including the ears, feet & sanitary. I can't do her nails so I take her in for trimming every 2 weeks. She goes to a groomer twice a year for a professional trim. It takes me about an hour from start to finish when I bathe her but she has a full coat and the blow drying takes about 20 minutes. |
thanks for the info! i dont think i will wash himmy self because he is quite fuzzy.:D |
You will spend a lot of money on grooming if you go weekly! Here it is $50! More than my hair! I bathe Holly every week. It takes 5 minutes! She runs about madly to dry off and sits infront of the heater. When she is dry I brush her. She gets a brush/comb nearly every day. I can do her nails myself too when she is sleepy. I clean her eyes every day. I plan to visit the groomer every 2-3 months, mainly for a nice hairtrim as she is too wriggly to let me do it,especially around her face. If money is no option,by all means go as much as you like. I like her to be clean as she sleeps on my bed! |
I bath Trixie and Scampers once a week every week. I also do all the grooming myself. The only time they go to the groomer's is around the holidays like Christmas because I am just too busy to do it myself. If you don't have money to take them to the groomer's every week then just take them once a month and use those in-between-baths sprays, they will keep your dog smelling nice and looking good until the next appointment you have with the groomer. Also, if you do bath them every week make sure to use a moisturizing shampoo and conditior so their hair and skin won't get irritated. |
I wash Cali every 2 weeks and to the groomers very 8-10 weeks fpr a good grooming and trim. |
First and last time Pixie will ever go to a groomer was last December... The groomer totally did not do what I want and I'm afraid another one will do the same thing.... So I do it all myself! I bathe her once a week and do other things as needed - pull ear hair, sanitary trim, trim nails & pad hair, etc. She was a handfull at first, but I didn't give in to her objections and now she stands there like a perfect little lady while I do what I have to.... Last weekend I even cut her hair. I took a couple inches off all around. There's one spot that's uneven, but unless you look closely for it, you really can't tell. It usually takes an hour to and hour and a half depending on what needs to be done that day. I'd rather take the time to do it myself than pay someone $35 to NOT cut it the way I want! |
I bathe Oscar about once every week to 10 days. He goes to the groomer every six weeks or so for his grooming as we keep him in a puppy cut. He has a very wavy, thick & cottony coat that was just impossible to keep long. He is due to go now! His ears are so heavy with hair, his right one is drooping!!! Gotta get that taken care of pretty quick! |
I bathe Sadie once a week myself. I would love to do all of the grooming myself but she just won't have it. So off to the groomer we go about every 6 weeks (or whenever her hair gets in her eyes & she can't see). Hopefully the older she gets the more she'll be still for me to do it. But right now, I think that sometimes it takes two of them to do it because she's a wiggler |
Sissy gets bathed once a week, the entire process including blow drying takes about 5 minutes. I trim her hair myself (she is 10 months and I've trimmed twice - her hair grows slowly). I've tried to do her nails, but she won't cooperate. So the groomer for that process last time. Nails alone are $12.00 so if you use a groomer regularly for everything, its going to cost a forture! |
Loki goes to the groomer every 4 weeks. I bathe him on weekends and wash his face every day. He doesn't get stinky until the 6-7th day, unless he pees on his foot. Then he gets a foot bath! He is cut really short for summer so I blow dry his body and let his feet and face dry on their own since he hates the blow dryer on his face. Nails are hard. I try to do them once in between grooming appts. I also brush his teeth every few days. |
I bathe both mine every Saturday, and they go to the groomer every other month! (I keep them in puppy cuts) |
do they really get stinky in a week? what exactly is stinky about them? is it because they have the long hair? i don't have mine yet so i don't know about this. everyone says they wash their dog once a week. do you really have to do that? |
I Take Gimpy To Groomer's Once A Month To Get Shaped Up. But I Give Him A Bath Once A Week My Self But He Jumps In Tub And Cry To Get In Shower So He Gets A Bath Maybe Three Or Four Times A Week Weather He Needs One Or Not. He Makes Me So Mad I Just Get Done Brushing Him And He Gets In Shower With Hubby. |

If Sadie gets hot outside she starts smelling like a goat (like little kids do when they go out to play) Yuck!!! Also, her back end starts to smell after several days because of the long hair (she pees on it because she lifts her leg up some & the hair falls right in the stream). So sometimes during the week she gets a "butt bath" (the back end only) to take care of that. If it's not too bad, I use the bath wipes, but they don't work too well, I don't think. |
i wash romeo every sunday. i trim his hair between grooming. he goes to the groomer about every 8 weeks. |

wow i didn't realize. i'm gonna keep my yorkie in a year round puppy cut so i won't have to deal with teh long hair. and she can come in the shower with me once a week :) |
Ginger is groomed daily by me. I brush her coat, wash her face, mist her with doggie perfume, clothe her and style her topknot. I give her a bath every Friday night and she sees her groomer every 6 weeks to get all the more difficult things done, like trimming her coat, shaving her ears, cutting her nails and whatnot. :aimeeyork |
I give Bridget a bath once a week and she goes to the groomer once a month for trim, nails, ears, etc. |
I take both of my girls once a month. I keep them in a puppy cut- they stay neat and clean. In the summer, they swim every day so keeping them short has its advantages. Mine sleep on our bed, too- so keeping them clean is a must for everyone.:aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I used to take Royce to the groomer once a month and give him a bath every 10 days. The groomer is a great guy with over 20 years of experience and knows how to handle small dogs . But last saturday I had an appointment and when I got there I found out that my favorite groomer went to work at their other location and they have another groomer . She came toward me to take Royce so I said I will go with him ( the other groomer allows me to stay with my dog during grooming ) and her answer was I dont allow owners to stay with their pets while I groom them so wait outside have a coffee and he will be ready in 1 hr . So I said no way and I left I went to a petshop and bought all the tools that i need and groomed him myself ( clean the ears, cut nail and trim his pads and other areas and I did a great job ) .When his hair gets longer i will take him to my favorite groomer who works far from my place but for the timebeing I will keep on grooming him myself and there is no way i will leave my royce with a groomer that I dont know and who has only 8 yrs experience in grooming . |
Kobe goes to the groomers every 4 wks. He stays in a puppy cut. Not sure if I will do the same for Kali or not. I want to keeps bows in her hair. My daughter told me that I can keep the top long for bows but she wants the rest in a puppy cut. |
Meeko goes to his groomer every four weeks. We bathe him in the shower whenever he needs it (mostly due to playing so hard and sweating). He keeps a year 'round puppy cut and does not go outside much in areas where he could get dirty. We live downtown and he is mostly on sidewalks. When he sweats a lot, he needs his eyes wiped. We use the wet toilet wipes for this. His backside stays quite clean, due to the tight shave he gets from the groomers. However, if necessary we use the wipes for this as well. Meeko doesn't usually have an odor unless he has been playing with other dogs. Then its shower time! |
Before I moved, I had a great groomer with a great package for me. I had used her for several years and we were good friends so she helped me, I helped her. I sent her ALOT of business and watched her get her own shop up and running successfully. I took the babies in once a week for $10 per dog. It was $15 if I missed a week. That included a COMPLETE groom and I think what she did was keep things neat and tidy, so they never really needed a whole lot of work. Here, there is no such thing as that!! So, she taught me how to do the basics and I am learning the rest. Every now and then, I do take them in for a "overhaul" but at home they get a bath at least once a week. |
My intention was to get Lola groomed every three weeks. However, after all of Lola's health issues, it was impossible to schedule an appointment. I didn't trust leaving her with a groomer because I was afraid they wouldn't be gentle enough. After her leg had healed for about a month and a half, I scheduled a mobile groomer to come out. She was fantastic, but extremely expensive. I think Lola will get groomed now every 6-8 weeks, like her Mama.:) |
My Lucy gets a bath once a week at home, gets her face trimmed and her rear end shaved every two weeks at the groomers for $7.50 ($10.00 dollar total with tip, only takes 5 minutes), and is fully groomed every 4 weeks ($42.00 not including tip). Also, I wash her face and brush her every day (she hates it!). We are lucky that we have a great grooming shop by us. |
well, tucker is my first yorkie and the first dog i've owned that needed grooming... other than baths. we live in the country, so we don't have many options when it comes to professional groomers, but i knew i couldn't do it well. i've trimmed around his face some myself and he gets a bath once a week, and i trim his nails. i took him to an animal hospital where another yorkie owner had taken hers. we had a really good experience. i dropped him off before work at 7:30 and picked him up after work at 4:00. it was $15 for a bath and another $15 for the cut. he did have to get his shot for "kennel cough", so our total was $45. from reading the other posts, that was a good deal! anyway, they even took a picture of him during his bath and gave me a copy. that made me feel like they cared! i'll probably just take him back whenever he gets long again! |
I have three!!!!!!!!!!! My three have never been to the groomer and probably won't ever be!!!!!!!!! I am so afraid they will hurt them. When I started buying yorkies last year, I read your alls posts and went to different websites and taught myself how to do it. it is trial and error. i have my three in long coats which I love so all i do is trim here and there. they are bathed every Monday, now that it is warm and they are outside a lot. i do what trimming needs to be done at that time. No bows or painted toenails for us (yet). i wash hinnies and eye goobers every day when i brush and comb them. I used to take my mini poo once a month and it can get very expensive especially for three. |
