Please- Need Advice Immediately I think my pup has something lodged in her throat- she keeps swallowing really hard over and over. I have looked in her mouth and I don't see anything, but something is not right. She did drink some water and had been gagging like she was going to throw up- up nothing can out. Now I think there maybe something stuck (she had been outside prior to all of this- probably chewing on a stick) This has been going on for about a half and hour. Should I try to get her to eat something and see if it will dislodge? If you have any ideas, plese share!! Thanks!! |
Heimleich method I don't know what to tell you, how big is your pup? If she is not extremely tiny I would try a gentle gentle pressuer on her chest, similar to the heimlech methods, I also would call your vet, there is no telling what she may have in her throat, you also might try giving her some pnut butter off your fingers, that may grab ahold of the twig or whatever and help her get it down. |
If it was me, I would take her to the 24 hour vet! I am really paranoid... Maybe someone else has a better suggestion! Good Luck! I hope you can get it out! |

Thanks for the responding Thank you all for responding- she is doing better now. She took a little nap and when she woke up she was still doing it, but after a few minutes she quite. Maybe relaxing during her nap help it loosen it up? :confused: I am going to keep a real close eye on her and see how she does. I will keep you posted if anything changes. I swear she is part beaver! She LOVES to chew on wood- I try to keep the sticks picked up and out of the yard, but if there is a stick, she will find it! :eek: Even in the house she is constantly trying to chew on my dining room table and chairs :mad: - any suggestions to prevent that? |
Glad she seems to be ok. My yorkie treats sticks like crack but she's good at home. Lol there was a 12 week old yorkiepoo doing its darndest to get her to play in the park yesterday but Sheila was all about her stick. Wish I had pictures it was too funny. |
I would take her to my vet even if she is better. She quite possibly has collapsing trachea and what you are describing could be reverse sneeze. My Yorkies are the same way with wood. Do you suppose a beaver did sneak in and breed when the breed was veing developed? |
When Bennett was little, he constantly chewed on the legs of my TV trays. I became frustrated at this and one day I threw a paper book on the ground near him. Didn't even come close, but it scared him to pieces...lol. Hasn't touched them since. Wendy |

Id make an appointment with your vet asap even though you feel your fur baby is better. You can never play it too safe! I hope all is ok! |

Good news Glad to hear your baby is better. Just keep a close eye on her, she starts again, talk to your vet. As for the chewing wood thing, I saw this on a dog program on Animal planet used it for my boys and have given the hint to others that it worked for them also. Go to the nearest discount store like 99 only and buy a stick of anitpersperiant (sp) and rub it on the wood that you want her to stay away from (the clear stuff works great and does not show) and I guarantee she will not chew it. I have two boys that started chewing the wood on my tables, used this after tryign the greenapple bitter stuff and in 5 months they have not touched it since. I have only reapplied once during this time. Anythin that they show an interest in chewing, I apply the clear stick. Fuinny thing is they have a "Stay away stick" at Petco for $10 and it has the same identical ingredients in it LOL. |
She still seems fine this morning, but I will take her to the vet today, just to be safe... I kept her no more than an arm's distance away all night- I swear I was awake every hour checking her! Now I am worried about whatever it was coming out the other end... will woood digest in their stomachs? Thanks for the chewing tip- I will give that a try. I figured someone who know a good way to prevent the chewing- maybe I should do this on a few sticks out in the yard so they won't seem so appealing next time... :rolleyes: |
My husband took her to the vet this morning and everything checked out just fine. They said to just make sure she is having normal bowel movements and that whatever went in, should come out... the next couple of days should be interesting... :rolleyes: |
