Update on Neena after surgery
 

Here I am with mixed feelings. Neena came home yesterday. Considering all she went through, she was doing very well. She takes pain meds every morning and she's fine the rest of the day except for some hearty naps in between. And of course, I do want her to recover well. Her appetite seems to be normal and her elimination schedule is right on target too. So far so good; I will let you know more about the pathology report when I get it. Her vet mentioned to really watch out for more melanoma appearances; sometimes after removal they grow back even more aggressively :( . Nevertheless, tonight I was checking her incision to make sure it looked clean and there wasn't any swelling anywhere. She wants to lick the incision on her leg and tummy. I usually stop her when I catch her doing it because of a possible infection. The incisions look fine, but I felt around her belly and believe I found a couple of tiny bumps under her skin ; they are firm but move around :confused:. I find myself being angry at the former owner because she did not have her spayed as a pup and could have prevented all of this from happening in the first place. Neena never had a litter of pups, so there was no reason for her not to have this procedure done. Grrrr :mad: . Please keep Neena in your prayers. Thanks so much for your support.

having the procedure done certainly lowers the risk factor but it is not foolproof..... two of my past goldens both had cancer, on the first one we had it removed, but it grew back twice as strong (and WAY BIGGER) than what it was before, by the time she died we had removed the tumor on her belly (about the size of a golf ball.....) and it grew back (to about the size of a COWS UTTER!!!! IT WAS SO BIG IT WAS DRAGGING ON THE GROUND)...... my other golden died of canine distemper due to her lack of immune system (because of the cancer)
I certainly hope youre baby does ok, you do have a right to be angry, but i would concentrate on love for right now :)

I'm glad her surgery is over and I'll be thinking of you and Neena and praying for her to have a full recovery with no reoccurrence of her problems. Please give Neena a scratch behind the ears for me and Maddie sends puppy kisses and get well wishes!
