Nutritious Treats? Hi, My dog just loves treats of any sort, he's not big on eating out of his food dish. He prefers treats. I'm feeding him milk bones right now, and I know that they can't be good for him. So I'm wondering if you guys know of any nutritious treats that will taste good for my guy. He's going to be about 10 pounds, and is 5 months old. Hard treats would be best, I keep some in my pocket to reward him when he does good, like coming when I call and pottying outside. I could keep the soft treats inside though, to reward him when he comes inside (instead of me having to chase him down and catch him :) Would love to hear your suggestions. Thank you! Whitney |
healthy treats Hello, My Kiwi prefers apples and carrots over her milkbone treats. I spoke with my vet and she assured me that these kinds of treats are wonderful, as long as they don't soften the stool(watch for that). We cut them up into tiny pieces and give her an average of half an apple a week (she is only 10 weeks now). I have also read in books that frozen broccoli is good, but i have not tried it myself. I use cherrios and yogurt drops for treats, as well as the occasional (supervised) greenie. My girls LOVE their treats!! :) |
Hi, He loves apples, but they usually make his stool a little runny. And since he still doesn't hold it all night I don't want to have to deal with that. He is nice enough to go on the tile floor in the kitchen, but it's still harder to clean up! Whenever I eat an apple I always give him a little bite, and he does love them. He doesn't like carrots as much, but he will eat them. Where can I get the yougurt drops? I didn't think about Cheerios, I'll have to pick some of those up next time I run out of cereal. All I've got right now is Raisin Bran. Thank you! Whitney |
I give Gus Flint River Ranch dog biscuits. They are just three of their dog foods combined. Very healthy. You can also look at Innova and Canidae. They are all companies that use human grade, all natural food. So far I've only tried FRR but Gus loves them. He thinks he is getting something special. |

Toto loves the yogurt drops also! I made her some very healthy treats from a receipe in my "Barker's Grub" cookbook. I baked them and cut them into tiny treat sized pieces .... spread them on cookie sheets and froze them .... bagged them in zip loc bags and give them to her straight from the freezer. We, of course, tasted them and they are good ... we also know exactly what is in them! She loves frozen treats ... I also keep bags of carrot, potato, apple and veggie pasta and sometimes give those as treats! ;) |
What about yogurt? What about regular yogurt? Sometimes I will give about teaspoon full to my pups. They don't like cottage cheese but love yoogurt and it is a good source of calcium. Do you think this alright? I had read somewhere a couple of years ago- don't rememeber where- that a small amount of yogurt is a good calcium source for yorkies since they don't eat much at any time. |
