He's not eating very well Hey everyone..... I've switched Cash's food 3 times now.... He's never really eaten a lot... example.. he will NOT eat a cup of dry food a day.. maybe 1/2..... I do give him vitamins everyday. The other day I bought some wet food, mixed 1/4 can with 3/4 wet... DEVOURED it! Any suggestions as what to do... oh.. he did NOT eat the entire bowl.. ate all the wet and very little dry.... still acting the same way.... Should I ask the vet for a special diet... I figured someone on here might have some suggestions before I take him to the vet again.... Thanks for any help!! |
:) what foods have you tried? His sister is on California Natural /Chicken & Rice and she loves it! |

yes it is all natural and Gizmo my other yorkie has a sensitive tummy and that helps him too since it is not that complex of a formula..... good luck and let us know! |

I had to go through a few before I could get Ginger to eat too. Now she’s on Nurto Max and loves it. |

when you switched food did you do it gradually? mix the old with the new? |
Have you considered wetting the dry food with a little water or milk? Just as temporary measure .. might make it a little easier to eat. |
How big is he? Loki never ate more than 1/2-2/3 cup of food a day. Maybe he just isn't hungry? Loki still only eats about 1/2 cup a day and he's around 9-10 pounds. But he's also on an awesome food, which you don't feed as much of. He had diarrhea issues and I switched him to Canidae. Now he gobbles up his food and can have a taste of new things without getting sick. Now he'd totally overeat if I let him. Have you tried things like serving him from a plate instead of a bowl or throwing the food on the floor? At once point I figured out Loki wasn't picky about the food, but about the stainless steel bowl I had it in. I switched to a plate for a while and then to BIG ceramic dishes, like for a 50 pound dog. His food doesn't even cover the entire bottom of the bowl. |

We went through several bowls before finding one Georgia liked. I finally found it at The Dollar Store (if I only knew that 3 bowls and about $15 ago). It's a plate made of tin like the bowls only it's sectioned off into 3 sections. I think she likes her food spread out because it's easier for her to eat (she's a shih tzu--flat face). She doesn't have to stick her face down into a deep dark bowl. Maybe try to see if that have that at your local Dollar Store. It's kind of like the plates the use in the Army...tin. I would suggest as far as not eating to pick a food and stick with it. We went through about 5 brands before I got sick of it. I put down her dish..she gets about 15-20 minutes then it's up. She gets her next meal at her scheduled feeding ususally 3 hours later..in between I do give her some Nutrical if she hasn't eaten. I use Nutro Puppy wet for 2 of her meals then RC dry puppy for one. Your puppy will get hungry and eat eventually. Cash is big enough to miss a meal or two w/out any consequences to his health and if you're afraid give him some Nutrical in between feeding sessions. Good Luck. Georgia still goes through her fussy phases but I know eventually she'll get real hungry and polish off her meals. |
is Cash eating better now? |
