Concerned about Tia We just got back from a long shopping trip. It was Tia's first that we used her carrier for. In petsmart, I held her (she was scared to be on the floor :() and in payless and Target she went in her bag. BAD IDEA, she threw up about four times - first in her bag at Target, then on the drive home. I feel so awful for her. She seems to be okay now, just resting pretty well. She's had some water. My husband thinks it was the bag (the movement, etc) - I think it may have just been too much too soon (she's 5 months, but this was her first BIG outing). I'm just really concerned that I've hurt her or damaged her. Any words of wisdom? |
I don't think you hurt her. Sebastian threw up like that the first couple times he went with us in his carrier and my husband said it was motion sickness. He hasn't since but if we take him out of the bag while we are driving he will get sick. |

Bella went to Target today in her bag and she is only 11 wks old. She seems to love to go out. The vet said it was OK but to stay away from pet stores and parks until after her next set of shots which is next week I wanted Bella to get used to going shopping when she was young, she seems to enjoy looking around at everything out of the one side of the bag. I don't think you did any damage, just try again sometime, maybe walk around the house with her in the bag a few times before trying again, that is what we did every day for a week with Bella. We would put her in the bag and walk around the house for 10 minutes so she would get used to it. |
iv'e never had that problem with coco. since i got him at 8 wks he's been going byebye. but what we do to help with any kind of sickness is we hold him to the window of the car so he gets some wind in his face and it really works for him, now when we get in the car he stands on my leg and holds his head out himself. as far as the carrier he is so usto it already and he never gave me problems with it. i have the louis vuitton one so there's alot of space in it for him so i think it really helps to have that space.what kind of carrier do you have? |
I am using the Bali 2. I'm planning to get another one, but really just can't decide which to get :) |
Poor Tia! I'm sure the others are right...motion sickness... |
oh okay, is that one small to where she's kinda congested? |
She has quite a bit of room in it, but lays down as soon as she's there. I think it may not have enough air flow though. If I leave the flap open, she jumps right out. |
ya the air is probably the problem. i know as a human if i'm in a car i have to have air in my face. so i could imagine them in thier carriers. |
I took Kosmo and Denim out today with friends, usually when we go out I keep them in the carrier in the car and in the mall. My friends wanted to hold them so I agreed, they were fine in the mall then Denim's nose began to run so we left. On the car ride home they both spit up (they were not in the bag). I guess from now on they shall stay inside the bag, I have better results when they're in there. |
Yup, I definately think it's the air flow thing. Too bad, I like the carrier :( Now it's time to shop around for a new one until next month when my doggie account can be used again ;) |
Poor little Tia...too big of a day for her, huh? Don't feel like it's your fault...we all know that you take wonderful care of her and how were you to know she would react like that. Maddie's fine in her bag, but I started putting her in it when she was 8 weeks, so she got used to it and it's kind of like her security. If she sees me with her purse, she's jumping up and down and can't wait to hop into it. She'll even go into it to take naps now and then. I think you should try letting her nap in it now and then so she gets used to it and feels secure in it...then she probably wouldn't get so nervous going to new places. Hugs to you and Tia! |
Hi Aimee, you may want to read this link, it should help. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...74&postcount=8 Only need to worry when vomiting or diarrhea doesn't stop. When it is a little, or you are treating and it slows down in my experience it is not a big deal. The herbs on the link might help. best, deborah |
Thanks everyone for the words of advice and encouragement. I'm not sure whether to try her again in her bad, or to wait for a new one. I have this bag in purple: http://www.glamourdog.com/glex.html She seems to be fine tonight. A little on the tired side. I did take her to the T-ball game this afternoon and she was fine - barking at the other dog and looking around for more Yorkies, her normal self :) I think, more than anything, it spooked me because this was her first health issue. She's been fit as a fiddle other than this! :) |
I'm sorry to hear about Tia's 1st shopping experience. I have a Bali, but I am scared to take Esme shopping in it which is ridiculous, since that was the reason I got it for her! Anyhow, she also jumps out of the front if I leave the flap open and I do worry there isn't enough air in there. Target is my favorite store, I am going to get brave soon and try to take her there. I hope Tia is all better today and her next shopping trip goes a lot smoother! Esme was scared the first few times I took her to Petsmart too, now, she gets mad at me if I don't put her on the floor and let her walk! |
Hi Aimee! I'm glad to hear that Tia is doing good now! With all being well with Tia, that makes for you being and feeling fine too...and that is good! :) |
Aimee: I am glad Tia is better too. Hefner loves to go shopping and see al the people but Chai is never excited to go in the car becasue she almost always gets sick. It's ironic because one of the reasons I got Chais was so Hefner would have company when I have to leave them. Well, he always begs to go when I pick up my purse and poor little Chai can't stay home alone, so I now have to take them both and I don't have a big enough carrier for both so I usually put Hefner on a leach and harness and carry Chai. It's like having two toddlers sometimes. Anyway, I love your Bali bag!! |
