Puppy not growing . ? . ? . ? Our puppy, Bentlee doesn't seem to be growing. The vet has never said anything about it, he seems to be putting on weight fine but he hasn't gotten any taller since we got him. Maybe 1/2 to 1 inch but that's it. Should I be concerned ? His parents were both full size so I assumed that he would be also. He has very short little legs. His weight now is about 4 lbs. Could "normal" size yorkie parents have a teacup size puppy? I know he's not the weight size for a teacup :) but boy is he short :) I just measured him, from his hind leg to the top of his back is 6 inches. Am I overreacting or is this normal? Thanks :) Melissia |
How old is he? It is possible to get a tiny pup from normal size parents just like it's possible to get a larger sized yorkie from standard parents. It all depends on what is behind their lines since genetics come into play. |
Sorry, He is 5 months old. We have 2 female yorkies & they were much bigger at his age. They weigh about 5 lbs each but are much taller. He can walk under them :) |

First of all there is no such thing as a tea cup yorkie...this is a breeders way of getting more money for their pups...Yorkies are a toy breed some being smaller than others...And, maybe is just going to be a smaller yorkie. I have a friend that has 2 yorkie girls. One is 10lb and the other is 4lbs. My little Sadie {2 1/2years old} is 5.5 lbs and her Mom was 10 lbs and Dad was 4.5 lbs there were many different sized pups in the litter.. I would just give him time to grow... |
I'm not at all concerned if that is the size that he is meant to be :) I just want to make sure he is okay health wise I guess. The vet has not seen him since he was 4mo & won't see him again until 1 yr from now. I guess since he didn't seem concerned I shouldn't be either. I was just curious if anyone else had ran across this happening & it sounds like they have :) So I probably am worrying for nothing :) Thanks for all of the info, I really appreciate it ! ! |
At 5 months he still has some growing to do. Four pounds at 5 months is not "teacup" tiny in my opinion. He does seem to be a little short legged, but I think probably your others are a little too long legged. |
He will put on some length probably in the next 3 months. Cali was shorter legged until 5 months and then she started getting a little longer and taller. She sounds cute. i like the shorter back and legs look. |
