Joints Cracking Hi, Our new Yorkie, Jaxon, is almost 4 months old and recently we noticed his bones will crack in his hind legs (knee joint) when he gets up after lying down for a while. It would be similar to the creaks and cracks we all experience when getting up first thing in the morning. It's not loud cracking (more like clicking), and it's not constant. However, it does occur quite frequently and not just first thing in the morning. I asked the vet about this and was told that it is probably nothing to worry about considering it doesn't seem to cause any pain or anything. She did say that it might be an indication that he may get arthritis when he's older. Has anyone else's Yorkie experienced this? If so, did it go away or did it lead to bigger problems later in life? Thanks. |
It could be Luxating Patella's which is not that uncommon in Yorkies. It depends on how severe they are whether surgery is necessary or not. I would get a secong opinion. |
You just reminded me that our Yorkie did that at first also. Your post just reminded me that he doesn't do it anymore (he is 6 months now). I don't think he has done it for a couple of months. |
I had a young dog that did that for a while....and it went away. Please don't waste your money on a second opinion. If you are really concerned, the next time you visit your vet, bring it up again and share your continued concern with your vet. I'm sure they will give your concern further comment, if they know you are still worried. I truly believe that vet-jumping (and paying these extra bills) is a waste of money ..... especially when we are often dealing with things that may not even be a problem at all. Carol Jean |
