Anti Royal Canin? Why? I heard some people are against the Royal Canin line of dog food? Can someone please tell me why. I am now using the puppy formula for Benji and was planning on using the Yorkie specific later..I was also going to get the doxie specific for my other boy. Any comments? :animal-sm |
I know I have read on the site that it was very high in fat and dulled the coat? I'm feeding the puppy kind to moose and she loves it, I can't get it into the bowl fast enough. It was listed as one of the Top Healthest Dog Foods. I am still trying to decide if I will go to the Adult royal Canin or go with Natures Balance when moose gets to that age. I would love to be able to give Lil Bear the yorkie one but she has a liver shunt and can't have anything over 15-20%, so she gets special diet food and the Nature Balance Roll food. |
Royal Canin I would think the fat is good, to a certain %, because they need it for their skin and hair. I'm going to try it anyway when the time comes. I can always mix it up with a 'natural food'. Thanks for the reply.. :) |
I've read the same things. I currently feed Chico RC mini and actually switched last week to Natures Balance and he hardly ate, he would only pick out the Royal Cannin and leave the Natures Balance in the bowl. I returned the rest of the bag to the pet store and now stick to RC. I don't worry with him not getting his fill with it. But I have heard NC is much healthier maybe I'll try again when he's older. |
I feed Royal Canin and really have no problem with it. It's better than some and easy for me to purchase. Tia is doing well with it, she's healthy and not overweight. So, I'm very happy with it. |
Royal Canine was actually the only food I could get my picky maltese to eat. But she started to get really itchy, and we assumed she had an allergy to it. We have since switched her food and add Derm Caps liquid and she is recovering from her hair loss that resulted. |
What are derm caps, where do you get them? Ralphie scratchies all the time-he is on Royal Canin |
I actually bought it from my vet for under $10. But I think you can buy it at pet stores too. We switched Chloe's food to Chicken Soup for the Puppy's Soul. She is doing really well on it. You might want to change food to something else too. |
Our "Queen of Picky", Toto had never, ever liked any dry food we offered her! We tried the RC Yorkshire 28 and she loved it! She gets Nutro Ultra in the morning & evening and I give her about 1 tablespoon of the RC just in case she gets hungry. Although she is still not a great fan of dry food, she at least eats a little! ;) |
I heard from another forum that it can interfear with their liver enzyme count, or maybe it was giving a false reading on test reslults, something to do with livershunt. It's been over a year or more since I read it. I have nothing to substantiate that claim, I have know earthly idea if it is in any way factual. But it spooked me from the product. I read it on Yorkifriends |
royal canin is the only dry food that archie eats. as a matter of fact, he sometimes prefers it over the wet food. it was really hard to get him to eat dry food by himself, but i can hear him crunching away in the middle of the night. it's not the best out there, but to compensate, i feed him innova wet which is really the best wet food out there. I like the size of the RC kibbles. although he really likes innova dry food, the kibbles are pretty big. i don't mind the fat content in foods as much because archie gets so much exercise that he needs it. dogs tend to regulate themselves most of the time, but if you only give them certain foods or too much of it, they might get overweight. i give archie a little bit of food in the morning and more at night. just enough to cover the bottom of his bowl. |
no one else mentioned the corn in RC... Maybe all of it doesn't have it but if your dog is itchy & scratchy he might be allergic to the corn.. Other than that RC is probably a good food.. Innova is much better in my opinion... I think we should feed what works for us.. and our doggies.. |
Gee we feed RC puppy to both of our boys and they love it. both are doing well and getting bigger, I plan on switching to RC Yorkie when they are old enough.... |
We're on RC here. Milo only gets dry food. Should I put him on wet food too? |
Here's the link that made me shy away from it. Don't want to alarm anyone because I have not followed up on the info and have no idea how true it is. It just spooked me and made me decide not to use it. http://groups.msn.com/YorkiFriends/g...60966273724191 |
