Constipation/Pumpkin I read in some of the posts to feed pumpkin when constipated. Emmy's poop isn't quite normal, more less falling out in little pieces, trying to force it out. I've bought the pumpkin in a can, but don't know how much to give her/how often/for how long? If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it!!! =) -Ashley & Emmy:aimeeyork |
I've never seen info on how much, but would just give her a little with each meal until things are flowing more smoothly. Good luck! P.S. Ginger refuses to eat pumpkin (my other dog loves it). So if your furbaby turns up her nose, do a search on here for constipation. I believe I've seen other recommendations! |
The following will help your dog: Add canned pumpkin to every meal. The dosage can range from 1/8 tsp for a small dog to 1/2 tsp for a large dog, depending upon results. Start with 1/4 tsp for a medium and large dog, increasing the amount depending on stool results. Or you can do the following: Add wheat bran to every meal. Follow the same dosages as for the pumpkin. For increased taste, combine it with brewer's yeast. Put your dog on a high fiber diet recommended by your veterinarian, changing foods slowly. Add water to the food. Keep the water dish clean and full of fresh water, to encourage your dog to drink more. |
my little guy was 2.5 lbs when he had a bout with constipation... my vet said to give him a little less than a tablespoon. I gave him that by itself and he loved it. At the same time, for a 24 hour period, the vet (and very helpful and friendly people from this site), said to feed him boiled chicken and rice at meal time, which Nada also loved. We went from struggling to free flowing in less than 24 hours. :D |
