How to brush teeth  I started brushing Royce's teeth two days ago and he gave me a really hard time, he won't let me do it . What technique do you use to brush teeth . I managed to brush his front ones but it was impossible for me to reach inside his mouth on both sides as he didn't stop moving . Any advice ? Thanks:confused: |
getting any dog used to teeth brushing is a pain because they usually hate it. The younger you start the better. You can start off just by puting the tooth paste on your finger and rubing your finer along his teeth to get him used to the flavor and the motions. Then you can use gauze and the toothpaste. And finally once his mouth is bigger you can use a finger brush or a small toothbrush. The key is persistance. do it enough and they'll get used to it, or at least tolerate it for a minute or so. |
Try letting your dog chew on the toothbrush while you kind of direct it, making sure they chew with all different teeth. Loki doesn't like when I grab his gums and try to brush, so I just hold the toothbrush while he chews on it. |
The type of toothpaste you use can make a difference. Eddie LOVES the Petrodex poultry flavor. It's brown and evidently delectable. I use a rubber finger brush and do it every day. I started by just brushing the front and sides, but lately he's allowed me to brush the tops and back. Good luck. |
