When do you get dogs fixed??? Hi All, Preston is 7 months now... Cute as a button! He's about 3 lbs now... Anyhow, today I noticed he had testicles for the first time! I swear he did not have them yesterday! It also looked like his penis had grown A LOT and he had lipstick. As you know, it's not a pretty sight. I'm wondering when I should get him fixed and if I should??? Any advice??? HELP! I'm a new yorkie owner and want to make sure I do the right thing for my baby! Thanks! Adryana |
Lola will be 8 moths on the 20th. She is getting spayed today! |
I have heard, for boys, you should get them spayed by 3-4 months, so that the hormones that make them mark, hump, and be macho manly don't appear. But if you wait past 4 months, bad habits can start to form. For girls I heard before 6 months so they don't go into heat. My girl was 5 months and not even 2 lbs when I had her spayed and she did great. |
I my little boy was fixed at 6 months old. My vet would not perform the procedure before 6 months old. |
I just visited the vet with my new boy and asked the same question and he said at the 6+ months. |
My vet wouldnt spay or neuter Chachi and Jewels untill they were 6 months old. |
Fang and Errol were neutered at 6 months. They weighed between 3 and 4 lbs at the time. The vet said we should do it either at 6 months old, or when they started lifting their legs to pee, whichever came first. |
Peanut was fixed at 7months of age. He was lifting up his leg in the house and marking. Its time to get him fixed before he does this. Make sure you get labs done before the surgery and find a Vet that keeps them over night after surgery. Good Luck |
My vet will do it as long they're 2lbs.... I think Pixie was about 5 1/2 months when I had it done. |
when they're broken! Okay, just kidding...:) Seriously, I think you've already gotten your answer, but I'd say around 6 mos. as well. Since your little guy is 7 mos., you may want to start looking into this. Good luck! |
