A tick or not a tick? This may be a silly question but the first time I am dealing with something like this. I don't know for sure is my puppy has a tick or not. I say this because I remember when my grandma's dogs had ticks they were fairly big and easy to see (they were short hair dogs). Stevies has had a bump near his collar for about two weeks. When I first saw it, it was not time for his Frontline again but I went and got it anyway thinking it was a tick. Well the spot dried up but did not go away. So I called the vet today and asked what I should do and they said to remove it if I could see it. So I got my tweezers and tried to take it away. Which seemed to hurt Stevie and I just got a few dry flakes. So the bump is still there and it is red from where I used the tweezers and when I touch it he is very jumpy. What could this be? |
With ticks, you'd definitely see their legs. I'd take him in to see a vet. It could be something more serious. |
Thanks I was thinking the same thing. They are open tomorrow half day. I don't think it's something I need to take him into the emergency vet tonight but if he has some type of skin infection or something, I need to get him started on meds. |
Is it draining like it is infected. A live tick gets really big and blue when the fill with blood, like a small marble with legs. Before that they are very small and flat and hard to kill, because you can't squish them. If it had his head buried and got scratched off, his head could still be under the skin causing a sore spot. It would probably look like a scab. |
Well we went to the vet and it wasn't a tick which I'm glad to hear and thank you for telling me what to look for in the future. He had a small cyst which she said is common so she checked him out to make sure there were no more and clipped it off. He did have an ear infection so I'm really glad I decided to take him in. We have antibiodics for that. All in all he is doing good and a even the vet mentioned how much calmer he is since the last time she saw him. YES! |
