Itchy itchy baby! Jasper doesn't have fleas, I bathe him regularly, but not too often to dry out his skin. But he is still constantly scratching and nibbling on himself. I've tried all kinds of things, but nothing works. His underarms are horrible. They're kind of sticky and they smell really bad, even after a bath. I've tried Omega 3 in his food, I've tried Selsum Blue shampoo, vet shampoo, Vitamin E oil on his skin. Does anyone else have this problem? Please help if you can! Thanks so much :aimeeyork |

Itching/scratching CoCo as well! She's 7 months old, bathed approx. each week, no fleas that we can find -- but scratches quite a bit. We're not sure what is going on here...:confused: |
Maybe allergies? Ask the vet for a test. As for the scratching: try putting on a shirt with short sleeves (cotton, like t-shirt fabric). Mitzi is itching and scratching too and for some reason the shirt seems to help her. All the best for your poor little guy!!!! :aimeeyork |

What are you feeding him? He may be allergic to his food. If his dog food contains corn maybe switch to one using rice. |
Both of my dogs have gone through really itchy periods. My female itched so bad that she itched a bald spot on her side that was weepy at first then scabbed up. I'd check into the food you're feeding first. Mine seemed to be ultra sensitive to products with corn in it. Once I changed to a food without corn, the itching seemed to stop. My male also started itching again when I changed shampoos. If the shampoo leaves a residue of some kind, your baby may be sensitive to that. Yorkies are kind of notorious for their sensitivities. What I did, when my babies were in the worst of the itching was put a shirt on them. They still scratched but at least they didn't scratch the skin so hard that it lost them fur or broke the skin. I also gave them benedryl when it seemed really bad until I could figure out what the sensitivity was. I tried sulfadene shampoos, oatmeal shampoos and even hydrocortisone sprays. The smell that you're baby's producing from the weepy areas may be an infection of some sort. Yeasts especially have an odor although so do some bacterias and fungi. If it doesn't get better, I'd probably contact my vet. Good Luck |
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I've done the shirt thing but he really doesn't like shirts! He's a little bad boy. We told the vet and they said we could have him tested for skin allergies but it's really expensive and really not worth it. I've switched foods and everything, still no help. The only thing that makes it a little better is a bath once a week and a short haircut. Good luck to all of your itchy babies as well.
