Is it OK to mix Diff. Brand Foods? Hi Guys! My dog was on Royal Canine but I switched him to Natural Balance b/c of the corn ingredient in Royal Canine. Now, he refuses to eat. Even though Natural Balance has good ingredients, I guess it doesn't taste as good. So I am thinking about mixing those 2 or 3 brands in his food. Is this OK???? He throws up time to time. So I looked to see which food may be good for sensitive stomach, and Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach (www.petco.com) made of salmon looks like it has good ingredients. Has anyone used this brand? Is the taste Yorkie approved? Any insights? Please let me know. Thank you! |
I am going to say YES only because I do it and Tiger is fine . . . I feed him Innova puppy food (dry kibble) but I mix it with Gramma's potpie or Turducken Merrick Canned food (wet) along with either cottage cheese for morning meal and cut-up fruits for afternoon meal. HE LOVES IT! |
i read you shouldn't mix. i do mix. i'm in the process of switching from royal canin yorkie to chicken soup. i have a 50/50 ratio til he's totally used to chicken soup. then he'll be just chicken soup dry. we tried tons of food and he only likes r/c and chicken soup. |
I use Pro Plan Puppy and my babies love it.. I have never used the sensitive stomach though.. Good luck in your search for a better food... LOL |
Wosie is mixing! I am in the process of weaning Wosie off this huge bag of Purina One puppy I got for her many moons ago. It's been in the freezer slowly dwindling as I mix it with her Innova Puppy. You can mix. There will be no chemical explosions, I promise.:p |
I'm currently switching Jaxon from Science Diet to Nutro and I've been mixing them to get rid of the remaining cans. He gobbled it up today so he must approve. ;) |
I have 2 good eaters so I mix low cal with regular Eukanuba food. BUT IF you have a yorkie with a sensitive tummy - and you mix...you'll never know which food is causing him/her to be sick - if it is the food causing this. |
I mean mixing regularly. Thanks guys. I mixed food b/f switching, but I mean mixing on regular bases. I heard you are not supposed to b/f. But just think about it. Can we eat same old beef, rice, bread, chicken all mixed in from same brand day and night? Is that really good for our dogs?? Or should be we mixing? For example, Natural Balance is more of chicken and lamb base vs. Pro Plan Sensitive is more of salmon base. Shouldn't we be giving them mix of foods? Sometimes i feel bad that I feed him the same food daily. Let alone the fact "meat based" dry food that can be stored without refridgeration can not be so fresh...but that's ok, b/c I am not ready to cook for him... I dont even cook for myself! haha. What do you guys think? Feeding same food better? or Mixing different foods ok? Also, let me know if anyone knows if Pro Plan Sensitive taste good! This sounds crazy, but I taste and sample what I feed my dog... I have to make sure it tastes good... |
