Help! Teacup needs TLC diet! Hello, My teacup Yorkie is constantly getting diarrhea and vomiting when eating Eukanuba small bites. Our vet always has her on Chicken and Rice for a few days than tells us to slowly switch back to the Eukanuba when this happens. This ALWAYS makes her sick again! She loves the chx and rice so does anybody know if this is something I can always feed here and forget about the regular food? Or are there any other owners that make homemade food for their teacups? Dustin |
Hi :wavey: welcome to yorkie talk! I think your little one is adjusting to diet changes, a lot of members here prepare chicken with rice for babies having sensitive tummys. Im sure you will obtain a lot of other ideas from members or other alternitives that worked for them. Please posts pictures of your new baby :D this is a friendly family oriented forum and there are some that might want to educate you on the term teacup! as this term is lightly used here.. SO please don't take this personaly and again welcome.... :yorkiesar |
I know that when Gracie had a bought of diahrrea, the vet suggested a little bit of pepto bismol. Check with your vet to see how much you should give. Has your vet checked for any bacterias? How old is your baby and how much does it weight? |
You can mix cottage cheese with dog food and that is a bland diet. I would mix Chachis Lil Caesar with cottage cheese when he had an upset stomach and he ate that good. |
Thanks for the info so far! My Zoe is 4.5lbs and she's 2 years old. |
Welcome to YT I think I would keep her on the chicken and rice for about a week, and then slowly wean her off of it. Eukanuba has corn in it and there are others that say their yorkie gets diarrhea from foods with corn in them. So you might want to try a different brand of dry food. Natural Choice lamb and rice formula or Royal Canine which also has rice in it. It's the rice that takes care of the diarrhea. I hope that help. Let us know how she's doing.. |
It really wouldn't be healthy long term because she will be missing out on necessary minerals and vitamins - two foods cannot provide all her nutritional requirements. I would supplement her with Nutrical or nutristat when she is on this diet and like Jeanie K advised try a different dog food without corn and slowly add it into the chicken and rice over several weeks while decreasing the chicken and rice. It may be that just the sudden change in diet is causing the diarrhea not necessarily the food. |
Welcome I wanted to make sure you knew that you are So welcomed!! I can't wait to see photos :yorkiesar  :cheer: :welcome4: |
My wee 3 lb er does well on a choice between Royal Canin and Nutro Lamb and Rice. She also eats cooked mince, chicken etc.She is still on puppy versions at 6 months, but I will try both those brands' adult versions when she gets older. Good luck and welcome to Yorkietalk. |
Welcome to YT :wavey: We would love to see pics of your little sweety. |
:welcome4: :yorkietal :yorkiesar You came to the right place for the best advice. Chicken Soup for Dogs and Merrick are also very good brands of dry food. They also have a nice selection of canned. Hope you find a solution soon. |
