How much to feed a 1.8 pound pup? Because we've had some challenges with Archie's eating and he no longer will eat the combination of dry kibble and wet food (ProPlan puppy liver and rice and just a touch of Mighty Dog) his breeder had him on, I now am having trouble figuring out how MUCH food he needs each day. What is a serving size for a small (1.8 pound) 13-week-older? And how many servings should he be consuming a day to stay healthy? I think it must be smaller than I think it is. I notice if I put less food in his dish, he's not so freaked out about eating it. I think I may be attempting to overfeed him (that is, when he lowers himself to actually eat!) Also -- what is the absolute best dry puppy food I can put him on? Thanks! |
I prefer Science diet puppy small bites 3 times a day a 1/4 cup. That's what my babies are eating before they go to new homes. If you can leave his food down that would be good. Good luck I know how finicky they can be. |
I prefer Science Diet Puppy small bites also. My dogs coats are beautiful, they are healthy and have plenty of energy. Their stools are good and "healthy" looking. My older ones are on Science Diet Adult small bites. They are very healthy Yorkies. |
I let my pup eat as much as he wanted.... and he always had some dry food available. He never overate - and I'm sure he was never hungry. Carol Jean |
My pup eats Royal Canin Puppy Mini and Nutro Choice Lamb and Rice. When they are tiny I would feed as much as they will eat. I fed my pup 4x or 3x a day.At 6 months i feed 3x a day,but kibble is always out.Sometimes I have to hand feed. They have tiny tummies-so it is important you feed the best food. You can supplement with Nutrical--it increased my pup's appetite! |
Thanks to everyone for their tips. Funny little dog that I have, he's decided, out of the blue that he likes cottage cheese and plain cheese, which he wouldn't touch a week ago. I'm getting him to eat a little Royal Canin here and a little Science Diet there and he does pretty well eating Cesar's -- but I would like to pull back on that. But for now he eats it and that's my goal -- to keep him alive and out of the vets! |
