hi I got a picture on finally... it is shown in my profile.. |
awww your baby is so cute! Thank you for sharing the pic! |
she's cute. can't really tell how old she is, but would lean more toward 6 mos. than 3 mos. |
the picture is small so it is hard to see her color, but she definitely looks older. At 3 months they are still black and tan. |
puppy That is NOT a 12 week old Yorkie..find another vet! What 12 week old has time to grow enough hair to be clipped 3 times in 3 months...and her face is far too mature and color-wise. Good Luck |
thanks everyone for their info. I feel alot better about my purchase. I talked to the breeder yesterday and she said she gave me the number to talk to her vet. The vet confirmed she was born in october. I will be looking for a new vet! |
There is such a difference between 12 weeks and 8 months - I can't imagine not being able to better assess this little puppy's age. Teeth are certainly a good place to start, but even with teeth, there can be a differences as far as age goes. Doesn't an 8-week-old puppy still look like a puppy, walk like a puppy, smell like a puppy, and play like a puppy????? It does to me. My 8-month old pup is totally different (not just in size) from what he was at 8 weeks of age. He just plain doesn't appear to be a puppy anymore. He's a "teenager" ....much more grown up - much more agile - has a much better understanding of what is going on around him and how to get what he wants, etc. Ears - hair colors, hair growth, appearance --- all of these change quickly with our little guys. I can see having some difficulty telling a 6 year old from a 10 year old..... but a puppy from a more-grown-up dog..... shouldn't be any problem here!! I'll bet any breeder here could quickly give you a good estimate of your pup's age. Carol Jean |
It also worries me that the breeder told you she was 8 months, and now you see she is 6 months. Why would she not know? |
I got my Jasmine at 7 months old... she was 1 pound, 11 ounces back then. My vet thought she was younger based on her lack of adult teeth also. I think some with some tinies... they may mature later... and I don't think many vets are all that familiar with tiny yorkies. My Jasmine is a year and 1/2 now and she has her adult teeth. Best of luck with your little one! :) |

Your baby is very cute. Welcome to YT. I'm certainly no expert on yorkies with Sissy being my first, however she has lots of silver on her head at 13 weeks when I brought her home. She was most definitely black and tan when born, but started getting the silver on her head around 8 weeks. When her hair started growing, all the black and most of the silver is done and her face is now light tan with the silver more on the back of her head - see photos; #1 is Sissy at 13 weeks, #2 is Sissy now, #3 is the back of her head/neck now. The avatar photo is Sissy at 4 1/2 months. |
