Neutering Recovery Time?
 
My little one is going to be neutered on June 22. I feel bad for him. I really don't want to do it but I have read alot of reasons why it is good to do it and they make sense. Anyway, I was wondering after he is neutered, how long does it take to recover? Also, is the incision really big and are stiches used? I forgot to ask my vet these questions but I am sure someone here can help me out. Thanks.

Everyone says they are fine the next day. Tucker was fine as soon as the anethesia wore off! He was jumping off of the couch and chasing the cats that night! They do stitches, I think Tucker had 5. We went back a week later to pull them out, took less than a minute. One bit of advice, I bought a couple of newborn onesies and put that on him so he wouldn't bother his stitches. Worked like a charm!
It really isn't a big thing to them, it's just us mommies who freak out!

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but what are newborn onesies?

bunjee was fine when i brought him home and he wanted to play immediately! i couldn't give him a bath for 10 days though. he had a couple stitches but it disappears after a while.

That's what I thought. Are those the ones with the little snaps at the bottom? If so how did you put it on your Yorkie? Did you cut a hole for his tail?

yeap. they're the ones with the snaps at the bottom. i cut a little hole for his tail and just unsnaped the bottom for when he's going to pee or poo.

Good idea. I will have to remember that for when my little baby gets neutered.

I didn't have to cut a hole for Kelsey. I put her tail through the middle button and buttoned up the two on the sides. It worked fine.(her tail is kinda low and longer b/c she's half poodle). I didn't use the cone thing at all. She was much more comfortable wearing those...:animal36 :thumbup:

Mojo and Byron were perfetly normal within a few hours...i did force them to rest for 2 day, meaning no running, playing or jumping :) They recover so fast, it's amazing

I am so glad to hear many of you had a quick recovery time. I hope the same is true for me. I was wondering, did many of you have to use the cone after surgery?

Cones really scare these little ones and so many members use baby onies. If you read the thread they are talking about newborn one piece clothing. It really is easier on these little ones.

Tiki just got neutered last friday, and he was like a little ball of fire as soon as he woke up. I believe the nurses exact words to me when I went to pick him up were "no moss is going to grow on that boy, he hasn't stopped running around since he woke up!" :p And whoever came up with the idea that dogs tend to calm down after neutering, needs to meet Tiki, I swear he's crazier! :D

Chuckle, chuckle - it seems as if the boys bounce back faster which is pretty funny considering that someone just chopped off their baXX's :D

I wasn't aware that the cones scare Yorkies. I am a first time Yorkie owner. I am going to do a search on the onesies. I feel so much better now because it seems that many male Yorkies have been just fine after this surgery. Let's see what happens in June with my little one.
