My 6wk old has roundworm!
 
We took Daisy to the Vet today for a well baby check up and the vet said Daisy had roundworm! She is only 6 weeks old. We just got her from the breeder 2 days ago and her vet checked her 5 days ago and said she was fine!

Can this be really bad for her because she is so young?

She took a pill today and will have to take another one in 10 days.

Has anyone else had experence with this who can give me a little advice.....

Any particular reason the breeder didnt' keep the pup until she was more socialized, say around 12 weeks like most good breeders do? Here's a site with some information on all types of worms that puppies/dogs can get, including roundworms. http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/beag...tinalworms.htm

Hi Holly,
I am glad you took Daisy to your own vet right away to have her checked, even though she was vet checked by the breeders vet. That in it-self shows you are a very caring person and I think with your vet getting onto this right away and all the TLC she will be getting from you and Daddy there that she will do fine. When do you take her back to get re-checked, please be sure to do that. I enjoyed viewing your dogster pictures. What are you feeding her and be sure to have nutri-cal on hand.

Most puppies are born with worms. I wonder if the breeder did not worm her. But it is a very common thing and won't hurt her.

Thank god they have pills to cure it....she will be okay but it is kind of gross to hear your dog has worms! :eek: She is really adorble worms or no worms..give her a kiss for me!!! (you sound like you're doing a great job taking care of her). :thumbup:

Round worm is very common in pups. It is easily treated. Gross, but she'll be just fine.

She is doing ok. I woke up this morning and she has passed the worms. Man that was gross. :eek: I have been reading up on it and I know it is common, but i wish the breeders vet had found it. I was just shocked.

Roundworms and hookworms are very common in all puppies. Even when treated, they will sometimes re-surface. As long as your baby is treated it will be fine. They probably re-surfaced in your baby because of the age at which you got it, it wasn't done with it's de-worming schedule yet.

I have to say this though...I am aggravated at all the breeders out there that I keep hearing are letting pups go at 6 wks old. You'd have to tie me up and physically take a pup from me at 6 wks, not to mention if you could get past their mother who would go totally nuts. I just don't understand it. Is money really that important to some people or are they just lazy and don't want to properly raise their litters. Probably both.

I am not directing this at you SDPhotogrl...by no means. I am directing this at all the breeders who continue to do this. I am very happy for you that you have a new baby to love. :)

I agree with you. If I had known it was wrong to bring her home I would have told the breeder to keep her a little longer. She is my first puppy and I didn't know any better. I wish I had. I know with my love and all of your support she will be just fine. :)
