Unusually Dark Pee Does anyone know what this can mean? Otis's pee is looks like a dark yellow or orange. I have never seen it like that before. Thanks! |
Could it be blood in it? Maybe he has a urinary tract infection. |
Has he eaten or drank anything different as of late? Has he gone poopy today? I couldn't find anything on this topic. :( |
I think it usually means they are somewhat dehydrated. But if it looks like there is blood in it you might have more of an infection going on. Let us know what you find out. |
we made tacos yesterday, and he ate a TINY bit of the meat which had some taco spices in it, like chili powder, garlic powder. It wasn't too strong. I also bought him these new chicken treats, and he had one this morning. http://www.dogswell.com/products/vitality.php I just called them and they said they never knew of any side effects to the treats. |
Well, it happened after we came home from the vet, of all places. He was in the car for a while and panting, then we went for a 15 minute walk and he was panting. Then as soon as we get home, he pees and, the pee was really really dark. He also threw up earlier today, but the good thing is he DOES have an appetite. He ate some boiled chicken/rice, and he seems totally normal, and drank a ton of water when we got home. |

If he's drinking really well, I'd just watch for the next pee and see if it is clearer. |
2 Attachment(s) I'm going crazy, so I'm going to do something even crazier and post pictures. The first picture is the first pee we noticed, and like an idiot, I kept blotting it, so it doesn't appear as dark orange as it did when we first saw it. But it was pretty dark. The second one, he just did about three minutes ago after he drank some water. That one looks a bit more normal. |
Wow! Yeah, it does look really dark.. It does look like dehydration.. Why don't you monitor what he drinks for the rest of the evening and then see what he does bathroom wise.. ..:) |
just keep an eye on it. it is probably just dehydration (concentrated urine) and nothing to be concerned about. i suspect all will be back to normal in a short time. |
I dont know if dogs and humans are alike in this situation, but here goes anyway..... A few years ago I had gall stones really bad, wound up in the hospital, and was fed morphine for a day and a half, until the removal of my gall bladder occured. My urine looked like that, but with a bit more orange color, (not trying to gross anybody out),but the doc said the stones were so bad, that they had caused some liver damage witch caused the discoloration of the urine. The color would return to normal once the opperation was completed. Again, I'm not sure if this could be the problem, becouse humans are very different from dogs. But it might be something to check into. What I'm trying to say is it could be he has a liver problem. |
this probably isn't anything otis has but when tucker started showing signs of a liver shunt he had reallllllly bad bladder crystals and they irritated his bladder which made his urine dark. but i honestly think he is just dehydrated. keep us updated |
Is there a strong ammonia odor? When Gucci had a UTI she had a strong odor and a few days later there was blood in urine. |
Well, I smelled pee pad No. 1, and it smelled medicine-y. Not sure if that's the same as ammonia. He peed on a new pad, and the pee looked pretty clear this time, so like everyone said, I'm going to monitor his peeing and drinking for the next few days. I really hope it's not UTI or stones. I don't know how I would be able to tell. Thank you everyone for your great advice. I know I can always trust to find answers here. :) |
