Help! I need help! I was reading some threads about seizure-like behavior in dogs. There was a posting from "the nickster" and his dog was having the same symptoms of what happened to my Princess this evening. She seems to be fine now, but I need to know how serious this liver shunt is. "The Nickster" said that he would post the outcome of his Yorkie's visit to the vet. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard about it, or has other information and/or experience withliver shunts. My Princess seemed to be in a fit for a couple of minutes, then laid down not moving for a while. As I said she seems to be fine now, but I need to know what I should be concerned about. If anyone out there can help, please do. |

Princess - several of us have Yorkies who have either been diagnosed with LS or who are in testing for it. If you have any concerns, you should get her to the vet as soon as you can. Be sure to let the vet know that you will be fasting her so that she can get a before/after fasting blood test. If the bile acid levels are high, further testing will be required. I've spoken with a top-notch vet in Knoxville who stated that LS cannot be determined by a blood test, it's only an indication of a problem. There are several threads here concerning LS. I don't know how to link to them, but if you do a search you will find lots of information. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way! |
