healthy exercise? I'm a new Yorkie owner and am learning a lot from this site! I have another question now. What is ok for them to do and not? Is it ok for them to go up and down stairs a few times a day? Should they jump on and off the couch? Are there particular things they shouldn't do cause it could cause harm to their legs? I've got a good harness ordered, so that part is taken care of. I just don't want to let her do things that may hurt her down the road. :( Thanks! omega |
pup I never stop my pups and adults from playing anyway they want..I perfer they do not jump off the back of chairs and couches, that I discourage..but jumping off the cushions is okay with me and climbing stairs..it is hard to prevent a Yorkie from being a dog and playing rough. I toss the ball to mine and they run non-stop. |
my little guy jumps and plays all day. be careful of your pup jumping from high places. my vet says xrays are $300. she calls romeo an acrobat and tells me to keep a close eye on him. we walk everyday too. at least 2 miles. i heard long walks can be hard on them so i'm looking into a pet stroller. |
Be careful when holding your pup (or letting anyone else pick her up) she could fall while squirming with delight. My pup loves her walks, but go at her pace and gradually build up the distance. I wouldn't go for a 5k run with them, but we walk for up to an hour a day now at 6 months. Standing on them is a hazard-I quickly learned to look behind before moving my feet as she sneaks up and sits at my heels. Keep her contained in the car if their is no one to hold her.We have a car seat--othewise she would jump all over! I have steps made out of pillows to help her get on and off my bed! Otherwise, they are pretty hardy! |
My dog exercises all he wants....the more the better! He isn't small (8 1/2) pounds and easily goes up and down stairs and off and on the furniture without my having to worry about him. I have to admit thought that when he was only 8 weeks old (and probably only 3 pounds or so) -- he learned to climb on the furniture and "go sailing off." I held my breath - but couldn't stop it - and he always managed a "great landing." I am sure the smaller your dog - the more watchful you need to be. Carol Jean |
