VPI Pet Insurance VPI "seems" to have the best deal for what I want, but it also seems like I've read a few places that people have trouble getting reimbursed by them. I don't want to pay for coverage then be denied when I try to collect. Do any of you have VPI and what is your opinion on them? |
I have VPI and I have never had a problem with it. |
I have VPI and did not have any problems getting reimbursed. I've only used it two times. |
I have it and have never gotten a penny back. On some of it I know it's because of preexisting but on other visits they were what I believe were coverable expenses and they have not paid. I have submitted 5,000.00 in claims and have not gotten anything back. I worked in insurance claims for 33 years so i know what should be covered and what shouldn't and I beleive they should cover at least 1,000 of expenses based on my policy and the diagnosis. |
sorry patti; for your problems with VPI however, i recently submitted a claim and i have gotten my money back. 78 dollars total, 26 dollars back. it's a slow process (took a month, despite i faxed it) but i like VPI |
That's good. I am hoping they will cover some of the 2,700 I faxed in about 10 days ago. |
we have VPI and like it just fine. we've submitted claims and have had no problems getting back reimbursements. |
I just got a letter in the mail from VPI wanting every and all records. lab results, diagnosis, physical findings and treatments for Cali from every veterinarian that has seen Cali from 8-1-05 to 4-7-06. I did'nt even have Cali until 8/29/05. I alos sent in extensive records fron the Er vet for her 2700.00 surgery. I don't get it why I am having somuch trouble with them. I also sent a letter with it telling them I knew they wouldn't cover her hypoglycemic claims and lspaying but her possible intestinal blockage should have been covered. AHHH! |
Based on everyone's input and considering that Scooter is young and has no pre-existing conditions, I think VPI is the way to go for me. Thank you for all the feedback guys. It really helps me feel comfortable buying from VPI =) |
Yeah, w/ no pre-existing conditions, I'd go ahead w/ VPI myself. |
do you really recommend insurance??? i have never considered purchasing it |
I've not had a problem with VPI. I was reimbursed $60 or $70 from Max's teeth cleaning (I total was $120). They also reimbursed for Interceptor for Max and Abbie ($15 each per year) and when Abbie was spayed--I forget how much, though. They don't have any pre-existing conditions so I've been reibmursed almost every time I submitted a claim. |

I would recommend if anyone is thinking about pet insurance to do so while your baby is still young. Premiums not only increase the older the dog is but also "pre-exisiting" waivers will cut in to the amount of reimburseable coverage. :animal36 |
i was just wondering......is VPI only an issue when handling a large amount of money? for example, fellow Yorkietalker, Patti; who has a bill of 2700 dollars..... |
I was wondering too. I have submitted two claims. One for 1500.00 and the other for 2700.00. I just mailed off all of Cali's medical records at their request so we will see. I know a lot of it is not covered but I know that at least 600-700 should be covered. I will keep you posted. |
VPI gave us a $455 check for an almost $1200 emergency visit. We are currently waiting for a check for a $5000 surgery. We have no idea how much they will cover. We have the superior plan and so far they have been great on reimbursements. We feel that it is worth the amount we pay for piece of mind and in the amount of time we have had insurance (about 4 months) it has been worth it. Good luck to you and as of now, I highly recommend VPI. :aimeeyork |

Lola's only preexisting condition was a cold. I don't think they will cover any problems down the road for breed specific problems. They reimbursed us for a broken leg. Her surgery was for a second broken leg. The break was in the same spot so it should be covered again. It has been about 2 1/2-3 weeks since I sent the claim in. It has taken about a month for all other claims to get answered. I am not sure if they will ask for more medical records. If they do, we will provide them and hopefully they will reimburse us sufficiently. |
sorry for your troubles again, patti; hope it works out :( |
How much is VPI and what is their website address? |
|
I am looking for pet insurance for my soon to be...and my search bought me here. I like that VPI is affordable..but i am uncomfortable with the fact that they dont cover hereditary or congenital....I have been assured that my pup doesnt have this but one never knows now do one? and yorkies like other dogs have health issues. i found one insurance co that covers "All illnesses covered - including hereditary conditions (some conditions may apply)". I will call them to get specifics..but this is the website..http://www.petcareinsurance.com/index.asp. for 6 orso dollars more... i think it might be worth it...i will continue searching YT to see if anyone has this coverage.(quickcare preferred) JMO.:aimeeyork |
That sounds good. VPI just sent me 2 checks for Cali's 5,000.00 in bills. They totaled 850.00. I was happy with that as at first they weren't goin gto pay anything because of preexisting and genetics related. |

VPI - I Don't Leave Home Without It! Quote:
I like the fact that I can go to any vet anywhere in the US and have coverage. Just like any insurance wether it's for a car, home or personal medical, you pay a premium for "Just in Case". As a matter of fact, I couldn't be happier with VPI. In the past year we have spent thousands of dollars for Jewel's tests and care. Her MRI alone was over $3,000 and they reimbursed over $1,400 or so. I was denied once but when I called them I found out THEY made a mistake and I received a check for the claim. We didn't have the funds when Jewel first got sick, we ended up having to re-finance the house to cover her bills. What a relief it was when the claim checks started to arrive. VPI even covered for Jewel's accupunctures! I would never own a pet without VPI insurance. |

Yes if they dog has been treated for a condition prior to the effective date they won't pay for any charges related to that. Cali went hypoglycemic a few days after I had her and they excluded that form the coverage. I have gotten some reimbursement for her intrstinal blockage surgery but not for any Liver Shunt related charges as they are considered genetic. |
