Just wanted to let you all know that I called a different vet and we are giving her 12.5mgs(half a tablet) It is really helping her a lot and it doesn't seem to affect her at all. I haven't had any trouble giving it to her. I am so glad that it worked. She would have already have had to have an allergy shot by now and have lost the hair from around her nose. Yeah for Benadryl! Hopefully it continues to work and no more shots. Fingers crossed! |
For those of you not sure about the math calculations, I just looked on my bottle of children's benedryl. It's 12.5 mg for every 5ml (1tsp) So for every 1ml, you'd be giving 2.5 mg for a 5 pound dog, you'd give 2 ml for a 7.5 pound dog, 3 ml for a 10 pound dog, 4 ml for a 12.5 pound dog, 5 ml (5ml is 1 tsp) Since Jig is only 2.5 lbs to 3 lbs (on a good day), I give him 1 ml from an oral syringe. The syringe serves 2 purposes. I helps get the right dose and helps me put the medicine in the back of his mouth so he swallows it and doesn't spit it out. Hope this helps, |
