Dry Food Question My puppy is 10 months old, going to turn 11 months on April 13. So I was wondering, will it be OK to start him on adult dry food? I still have some Evolve Puppy Dry Food left but it is running low. So I was planning on buying some adult dry food to mix it with the Evolve so he can get used to it. Is he still too young for adult food? The reason why I want to switch him over now is if I buy more puppy food it will probably last me a couple of months and that means he will be eating puppy food as an adult. Is that OK too? I am confused. One more thing, what is a good brand of dry food that I can buy at Petco that doesn't have corn? |

You could probably go ahead and switch him if you want. My vet says 12 months but they are small dogs so they can have puppy food longer than 12 months even. |

how about getting something that's suitable for all life stages? many premium dog foods don't have puppy vs. adult food, but have one that's suitable for all life stages. natural balance, flint river ranch, canidae, california natural, solid gold, newman's own organics, all have all-life-stage formulas. i'm planning to switch bunjee to one of these when we're closer to the 10 month time frame as well. |

i just went through all the brands of foods that i was able to get samples of. Merrick never responded to my request for a sample so they weren't on my list... but looking at the ingredients, it's good stuff!!! i just wish they had samples so i can see if bunjee likes it. he's such a picky eater. ;) |

I was thinking of trying Natural Balance. Does anyone here use it? |

Starsky has been on dry food since day one! We just moistened it when he was little. He loves the Nutro Lamb and Rice, small bitess!! |

IMO, it's better to keep them on puppy food a little longer than to rush the adult food, because their bones still might need the extra calcium. their little bones are so fragile anyway. |

NB is fine if you buy the blue "ultra premium" IT's on the Whole Dog Journal list. Loki was on it for a while. He had tummy issues on it - not because of the quality but he must have been allergic to an ingredient in it. He is on Canidae now. Do you have a Pet Supplies Plus near you? They carry all the good ones. |

that would be fab!!! i'd gladly pay for shipping and whatnot for the samples! will pm you. |

I know that the "ultra premium" is the only one on the Whole Dog Journal's list. You just want to read the ingredients of the others and make sure there is no corn and no by-products. Omega 3&6 are in Loki's Canidae but I also put Omega 3 on his food. Rather than buy the grizzly salmon oil - I just bought 350 capsules from SamsClub for $6. I cut one open and spray it on his food about every other day. It's the same stuff. |
