When to start Frontline? My vet recently gave me some Frontline Plus to prevent fleas and ticks this summer. He said I should start giving it to him when it gets warmer. I didn't ask how warm though. When is the right time to start? I live in NY and currently it is only 50 degrees. At what temperature do fleas and ticks start living? |
I'm interested to know as well. I've been debating between Frontline and Advantix. We found a tick on Jaxon a few weeks ago after a short walk outside. Kind of freaked me out and we read up on how to remove them so we know for next time. |
I was at the vet yesterday and he recommended K9 advantix for Mayzie mainly because it comes in a smaller dose so it means less chemicals for her. I agreed. He prefers Frontline in most cases though. |
My Yorkie is only 12 weeks old so she hasn't gotten her frontline yet. But my mother has a beagle who is outside pretty regularly and she usually starts in April/March depending on how warm it gets. This year she just waited till April, March really wasn't that warm, we live in NH. I would say if you live in a heavily wooded area start now you are better off being safe than sorry. |
Our vet said to use it between freezes. So basically we wait a couple of weeks after our most likely last overnight freeze and then we start it. After we get a couple of hard freezes in the fall, we stop using it again until spring. Some people use it year-round, regardless of the weather, but since ours are inside most of the time, we just use it in the warmer months. Hope that helps! :) |
Since it could be 25 one day and 80 the next here is Oklahoma, we have Katy on Frontline year round |
