Help. Best Wet Food?? Hi everyone, Little Otis is at the vet getting his teeth cleaned. I am a nervous wreck. I just called the vet and they told me he had a LOT of teeth extractions, which immediately brought tears to my eyes becuase I tried so hard to take care of his teeth so this wouldn't happen. They said it would be good to pick up some wet food for him. I've already boiled down some chicken for him, minced into tiny shreds with some boild rice, but I think he needs something more substantial. Can anyone recommend a nutritious wet food? |
I use Merrick's and Bailey's favorite is the Grammy's Pot Pie or the Turducken. I know Petco carries it in wet. Please keep us updated on your little guy. Btw, this is the first time I have seen a moderator post......nice to know ya'll are around :-) |
Thank you so much. I should mention Otis is 6 years old, so the extractions are not baby teeth. They are his permanent adult teeth that will never come back. I feel awful. Everyone...PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR YORKIE'S TEETH!! |
I buy Merrick's too based on many recommendations here. It also just LOOKS yummy to me. Since he may have trouble with crunchier stuff for a while, you may want to avoid the "Wingaling" since it has pressure cooked bones (apparently okay to eat, given how they are cooked), but I think they are crunchy. Big hugs and licks to Otis! :) |
:( So sorry that sweet man had to go through that! Hope he is OK and feeling better today! Toto eats a dehydrated "raw" food from The Honest Kitchen. It's human grade and she absolutely loves it!! You can feed it alone or mixed with other food ... her fave is a little minced parsley chicken mixed in! Tell Otis that we send him hugs & sweet puppy smoochies and hope he's all better soon!! ;) |
BettyeAnne, long time, no type! It's nice to hear from you, And Toto looks just as precious as ever! Thanks so much for the advice. |
Just to give you an idea of how well our yorkies do after having teeth removed, and I AGREE COMPLETELY THAT WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THIER TEETH,i HAD A YORKIE THAT WAS 15 YEARS OLD AND HAD 4 TEETH,THE REST HAD BEEN PULLED A FEW AT A TIME AND SHE DID FINE ON THE WET MERRICK FOOD UNTILL SHE CROSSED OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE AT 16 YEARS,NOW MY BABIES GET THIER TEETH BRUSHED 2 TIMES A WEEK AND THEY ARE 2 YEARS OLD AND THE VET SAID THEY HAVE GREAT TEETH WITH NO TARTER AND TO KEEP UP THE BRUSHING,PLEASE PROTECT THIER TEETH,BUT SENCE YOURS IS LOOSING TEETH,THEY DO FANTASTIC ON THE WET FOOD :aimeeyork |
I'm sure the Merrick is good stuff, it won best food of the year. I have the Whole Dog Journal list of the top wet foods from January at home, if you would like me to send you a copy PM me. I just want to say that I had to give Loki some medicine that I mixed in wet food, and I was worried because he used to have diarrhea issues if I changed his diet even slightly. Anyway, he is on Canidae and so I bought a few cans of the Canidae WET food. He LOVES it and now associates the word "medicine" with the most yummy food ever. It looked and smelled gross, but man he acted like he'd never eaten before. And I do know that it's on the list. |
