Patch of Missing Hair Hello, quick question. Lynx has a patch of missing hair by his back right leg. It hasn't grown nor is it red and infected. He's just missing hair. I noticed it and my groomer thought it was maybe allergies. His vet didn't find anything. Did skin cultures and all that. Couldn't find out. She said I could get a biopsy done of his skin but since its not infected nor isn't growing - I haven't. Has this happened to anyone else's Yorkie? Mari |
Any chance this is where he got his rabies shot? I see lots of dogs with little bald spots where they got their vaccinations. Maybe about 3/4" to 1" circle. Usually the skin is also darkened. Sometimes the hair has grown back but is a different color (lighter or darker). My female has a lump on the back of her right leg and I took her into the vet and he confirmed that it was right where he injected her. A week or so later I noticed the skin had darkened and fur fallen out. He said it is a reaction to the rabies shot. I am really bummed about it but grateful it is not on her shoulder where it would be noticeable. |

MY Dudley had the very same thing. It's on his right front shoulder. I thought it was ringworm or something worse. My vet started me out with some meds (cream) to try on it and nothing happened. It wasn't infected or red and it never got smaller or bigger..........didn't turn any darker or lighter, it was just there. It is about the size of a quarter. His hair covers the little spot. I never had the skin biopsy done either and in almost four years it's been the same. I'm having a very senior moment, and I can't think of the name of what it is.......OMGosh! Well, it's when the hair falls out and never grows back.......it has a name!!! Darn-it.....do you know what I mean???? At 2 AM it will come to me..... :) I have never heard that it might be a reaction to shots, but I'm sure that might be possible.... ;) :aimeeyork :) |
Thank you for your advice. He doesn't bother it and its not infected so unless it gets worse - I'll leave it alone. My vet did say sometimes it just happens. Thanks! Mari |
