Dogs are never too old to get neutered - but, if your pup is young - that's the best time to do it --for all the obvious reasons plus it can keep your dog from having many health problems later on. My vet said 6 months or so is a good time. It could be later, but I don't think he wants to do it much earlier. Good Luck - Carol Jean |

Neutering The cost of neutering and spaying vary. The spaying cost way more...sucks. I have heard of dogs being neutered before they are given to their new owner. My friend had found a breeder that would do it before the dog was 12 weeks so they went to their new home already fixed up. I personally would wait until at least six months of age to do it. I know that the ASPC and other animal shelters do it young becuase they know people won't come back to have it done and they can insure it's done that way. I have to find out about getting Lex neutered next month. When I had my female cat spayed at six months it cost me $190 so I figure Lex will run a bit lower. Where in NY do you live. I live in Queens, NY. I will check my vet's price range and let you know what they say. Has anyone heard about this shot that neuters them? I read about this shot in Yorkies for Dummies. It seems that it's just a shot that is administered directly to the little nuggets and it works the same as the neutering. |
Wow, a shot to neuter a dog? That's interesting. I never heard of that. I live in Westchester and I applied for the Friends of Animals certificate so the neuter will be about $75 because he is a Yorkie. I also need to get teeth pulled and will have a microchip installed so the total will be over $100, which isn't too bad. He will have it done in June. |
Neutering age FYI...it will cost more than the certs stated amount. I checked it out here in NY with Muffins.org. They get that discounted price for the neutering but you have to pay for the bloods and meds so it comes out to a bit more. Check with the facility that will be doing the service. |
Neutering Cost I just spoke to my vet's office. They said the full cost of the neutering is $159 and they wait until they are six months. They also said that if any teeth need pulling while he is under they will do it at no additional cost. Let me know if anyone would like their information. |

Neutering Yeah I was all set to use that muffins.org certificat for my cat's spaying and I called the vet to make sure that they still took the certificate...luckily I did before I bought the cert. It turned out with their added fees of the blood test and the meds it would cost me the same to get the procedure done at my regular vet that I love. SO I just decided to take my cat to our regular vet. From what I have been seeing the price my vet gave me for the neutering and the free teeth removal while they are in there I am happy. SO I guess next month when Lex turns six months I will take him to get snipped and have his teeth done. Good luck with your little one. :heart to |
$159 is a great price so you should definitely go to your vet. Unfortunately my vet was way too expensive and I am saving money by taking him to another vet that honors the certificate. His appointment is for June 22 so I hope all goes well. |
Neutering Good luck girl. Which cert are you using? I do like your price better...lol. |
I had Jaxon neutered last week at exactly 6 months. It went well and the cost was only $140, including the removal of 2 baby teeth. He bounced back really quickly as well. |
I am using the Friends of Animals certificate. Ask you vet if he honors it before purchasing it. Here is the link: http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs/spay-neuter/ |
Friends of Animals.... Their site is having a bit of trouble but I did notice that they are also accepted by the same vet that takes the muffins.org cert. I will see what I will do being as he might need teeth pulled and I have to see if what they want will end up making it cost as much as my regular vet. If so then I will go to them. I need a second job for Lex alone...lol. |
