Anyone try Merrick? Archie is a "picky" eater, but I do notice that if I just feed him what I want, he will eventually eat it. But lately, he's not eating the wet food at all and he only eats the dry food I give him. I'm not sure what the reason is---maybe the wet food tastes bad if he doesn't eat it right away? Well, I opened a can of wet food yesterday, and it looked like it was rotten...it had this white stuff all over it. UGH! So anyway, I went to the pet store to find him some more good quality food. I'm SICK OF THIS! It's like a battle with me and pet food companies...I'd love to find some moist food without too much sugar. Anyway, I know he LOVES Merrick canned, but it's too rich for him, so I decided to get a sample of Merrick dry food. Lo and behold! I saw that if you add water to it, it turns into a gravy instead of dry pellets floating in brown water. I'm delighted!!! It's bite size, moist, and it even has carrots and stuff. Have any of you tried Merrick? What's your experience? |
I've not tried it but it sounds good. I don't think you need to be concerned if he won't eat the wet food. Kibble or dry food is the best for them and most vets recommend only dry food for yorkie especially because the problem wih their teeth and gingivitus. |
Yeah...I used to want to feed him wet food before because it was more palatable for him and he is a puppy, but he's been going for the dry food now. I heard somewhere that dogs can sort of sense whether they are getting the nutrition they need, and so go for the food that meets their nutrition needs. It's like when we feel like we have low blood sugar, we'll go for something with carbs. Perhaps Archie feels like the dry food is more nutrition and less water. |
hhmmm...Merrick sound good but be careful microwaving the food as I heard if kills some of the nutrition in the food. I've recently started mixing some wet food with the dry to encourage Brady's picky appetite, it has worked but now I'm really going to make sure I brush her teeth everyday and she gets lots of biscuits to keep her teeth clean. |
I suppose you're right. However, dry food has more nutrition than wet food which is mostly water weight, so I figure that even if I microwave, he's still getting more nutrients than he would with wet food...plus, it's a tiny bit of water and 10 seconds microwaved, and it becomes a gravy which he eats anyway. The nutrients aren't evaporating. I wouldn't mix any other food with water because then it just turns to dry food floating in water, but with the Merrick, the tiny bit of water becomes a gravy. I do give Archie completely dry food as well (Royal Canin) which he actually really likes. Also, milk bone dog biscuits for his teeth in addition to chew sticks and a peanut butter flavored tennis ball. Wow...I wish I had my dog's life!! |
