Bella lost a pound!
 

We just got back from the vet and they had us put her on the large scale and it showed she weighed 4 pounds - no way! The vet brought out the baby scale and she weighed around 4 1/2. I still dont believe it. Even the vet said that when we brought her in at 3 months she was 3 pounds and she didnt think she could now be 4.
I brought her home, weighed her on my own scale, she was 4.6; last time I weighed her she was 5 1/2.
I dont think vets office didnt think much of it, I am just so surprised.
Bella has lost a pound. She did have tummy problems a week and a half ago and she clearly has lost weight.
Not a huge deal, I am, however planning on breeding next year and no way would I breed a 4 pound dog.
The vet was excellent though, and she said she personally has rarely seen problems with these little ones and was very non-judgemental and very comforting. ((Of course I know there are breeders on this board and you all would know better than anybody)).
I think I have to get her weight back up some though because when I originally got her she kept gaining weight and I had originally wanted a smaller dog and she is definately an over 5 pound dog.
Also, she has retained two of her baby canines (she is 1 1/2 old) so will have to have those removed.
I dont know - is that too risky, the thought of putting her under scares me.
I think the main problem is tarter buildup between the teeth but i am planning on doing a better job on them. What do you guys think?

That seems like a lot of weight to lose when she's just 5 pounds! Did her diet change at all? Has she been eating less at all?

She eats the science diet puppy bites (hard food) and gets moist food twice a day. I recently switched from science diet canned puppy (and no shes not a puppy, dont know why I was giving that to her) to natual balance (the kind that comes in the roll).
She did have diarrhea for 3 days (prior to switching food), plus maybe switching from a higher calorie moist puppy food to the natural balance, plus maybe I wasnt giving her enough of that, not sure, she practically inhales it.
So maybe a combo of things, but the vet didnt find anything wrong with her, other than 2 retained puppy teeth.
Also, only problem with the teeth is they are right next to eachother and building up tarter. Would you risk putting her to sleep over that? Or just leave them and maybe they will fall out.???

How old is she?

Do you leave dry food out all the time so she can eat as she wants to? I think if you did that her weight may go back up. You could still put the Natural balance out once a day to add some flavor if you want.

Has she been getting more exercise or is she just more active for any reason? That may be part of it to. It does sound like a lot of weight for a little dog to lose but I am sure she is fine.

She has dry food available to her at all times and feed her moist food in the morning and the evening. Plus, I will feed her little bits of chicken, cheese, chicken noodle soup or whatever (within reason, of course) we are having for dinner.
She also gets bits of dog cookies for going out potty and the occassional dog bone type treat (was getting greenies which she loves but that is around the time she got sick so I no longer give her those).
With as much as she does eat, I would think she would be a little chunk :p
She is a year and a half old and does like to play, but I would not say extremely active.
