Baths?!?! Hey everyone. Yet again, I need some suggestions. As some of you may or may not know, I have a nice but wild yorkie named Lola. Well, lately she has been making a mess of herself, whether it be digging, rolling in her number 1's and 2's, or just finding another way to get dirty. Although, I have no problem with her having fun, I have to keep in mind her health, the health of her coat to be exact. Especially since she is rolling around in her business, if you know what I mean. I obviously try my best to prevent her from getting dirty, but Lola will always be Lola. I give her one to two baths a week. It seems like, every other day or two, she needs another bath. What is the maximum number of baths that you can give your yorkie, keeping in mind that I want to keep her coat as healthy as possible???? Or does anyone have any other suggestions as to keeping her coat healthy and odorless without giving so many baths??? I would appreciate it. Thanks |
I read in a book that you shouldn't bathe your Yorkie too often, because it will remove beneficial natural oils. It recommended bathing every two weeks. I know Delilah could never go that long, she also seems to need a bath every couple of days. |
i know there are some kind of dog wipes you can use between baths for that purpose... i havent gotten any yet but i know they have them at petsmart i have been told not to bathe them more than 1x per week |
Thanks Amanda and Snickers mom....That is why I am asking, because I want her coat to stay as healthy as possible, but sometimes she just gets out of hand and gets too dirty. Last week, she got one bath, but this week she got two. I will definitely look into those wipes though! I need some kind of solution for in between baths. Thanks! |
Penny, I usually bathe my babies once a week. If I can hold them off, I'll extend that closer to 2 weeks. In between, I take a damp wash cloth and clean their eyes, face/muzzle area and privates. I suppose if Lola is really stinky and dirty from rolling in doodoo, you could put the cloth in soapy water and try that. Also CC systems Ice on Ice always makes my babies smell fresh when I brush them. Jig, my little guy can have "one of those days". Just last week he was rolling around in the mud. I made sure to give him a full bath straight away even though it had only been like 5 or 6 days since his last bath. He was covered in mud and had been in a pond! Good Luck with your "wild child", |
