Odd Number of Nipples!
 

Last night, I had Otis on his back, and I was searching his belly for fleas.....I kept mistaking his nipples for fleas.....then I noticed he had 5 nipples on the left side, and 4 on the right!! One nipple is just totally missing!!!! It's sooo strange!! I know his nipples don't serve any purpose since he's a boy, but does anyone else's Yorkie have this oddity?????

And I did (go count). :lol tears Gus has five on each side but I can say that one is so flat it is really just a tiny black speck. I thought it was dirt at first.

Uh oh, Yoda only has FIVE nipples TOTAL! Maybe he's a genetic freak? Only three on the right side and two on the left side. Are all the nipples on Gus and Otis like totally noticeable? Because we only see five!

This is cracking me up. I had trouble finding Gus'. At first I didn't see the ones highest up at all. I was scratching at the one that looks like dirt. Poor thing. Maybe wait until he is cold. ;) J/K of course.

LOL Itspuppyluv! Now I really want to know if Yoda is just weird for missing that many nipples or what. Cmon people, how many nipples does YOUR Yorkie have? :)

I don't know how any of you aree finding nipples. I've looked on Chachi and I can't find any. Maybe hes just a mutant!!!!!

My Grace has 5 on one side and 4 on the other. One of them is inverted.

ok guys yall got me wondering way too much, lol. i called my mom (i'm at workr) and asked her to go count nalas nipples but of course she said i "NO"

Hahaha...i feel the same way, only i have nobody to ask. I will count Mojo's nipples as soon as i get home..:):):)

They're very noticeable, but you have to dig through the hair, kind of. I was really suprised to find two nipples really really high up on Otis, like an inch below his armpit.

I'm so glad Yoda has an odd amount too! It has to be normal, then.

A supernumerary nipple (also known as a third nipple, accessory nipple, polythelia or polymastia) is an additional nipple occurring in mammals including humans. Often mistaken for moles, supernumerary nipples are diagnosed at a rate of 2% in females, less in males. The nipples appear along the two vertical "milk lines" which start in the armpit on each side, run down through the typical nipples and end at the groin. They are classified into eight levels of completeness from a simple patch of hair to a milk-bearing breast in miniature. Polythelia refers to the nipple alone while polymastia denotes the presence of glandular tissue.

Well i'm on of those 2% in females that have one. I thought it was a mole, until I got pregnant I asked my doctor what it was and he said it was a extra nipple so when I got breast milk there it was leaking breast milk too. strange thing i thought..

Well...i checked Mojo and he has 5 nippes on each side...now it is my turn to check myself..:P

I feel so much better now... Chloe has 10 everybody and I talked to FastEddie because I thought I would be the only one counting!! I feel so releaved you all count.... Hey I laughed so hard with relief after reading all these posts. I have been so worried over the last 2 days, Someone hit my car a few days ago while I was stopped at a red light, needless to say I am pouring out the $$ and did not want to go to the vet for no reason but that was my next step. Two nights ago, I was just brushing her (right after ending her first heat) I found a few "bumps" that were never there before and got frantic thinking they were tics. I convinced myself they must be. I had 2 doggie people check her (Groomer & a breeder) they both said nipples. How can they just grow after a heat. I am 100% sure they were not there 2 and a 1/2 weeks ago when she started her heat. ( I knew every inch of her or so I thought) I checked my little puppy (4 months) she is hairy like a teddy bear and I can't find one. What a tizzy I have been in.. I WILL sleep tonight:p
But now I have another question for all of you... During my frantic days of thinking nipples were tics, I called my girlfriend who has (Maizie) a hot dog, and she only has 6. Then a breeder nearby said all different breeds have different numbers. Now it doesn't sound like that here, it sounds like each dogs may have a different number. Now I am wondering (just curiousity - not frantic any longer) If the number of nipples has to do with the number of puppys a mommy yorkie may have... hmmm

My Biewer Girl has 9 nipples, we know she is not an inbreed, can we mate her to another Biewer Yorkie or is having 9 nipples a problem we should worry about? Really wondering?
