Chronic Sore??? Oscar has had a sore on his left shoulder for about 10 months now. The vet has shaved it, scraped it, treated it, tested it and still it is there. It just won't go away. It is about the size of a plain M&M and sometimes is just a red spot and sometimes gets all this crusty junk in the hair. It acts like it is going to go away and then the next day is all crusty again. He gets a bath every couple of weeks. The vet calls it a "Chronic Sore" and said last resort will be to surgically remove it...won't this cause a larger sore? Plus the thought of putting him under anesthesia does not thrill me. It does not seem to bother him...he scratches it every now and then but not much. I think it bothers me a lot more than it bothers him...anybody have a similar sore on your baby? |

hmmm....the sore came up months after he got his vaccinations but I think he got them in that same area. I will ask the vet about this...he is past due to get more shots...I think they get too many shots as it is. Two vets have told me "chronic sore"...surgically remove it if it does not go away. I need to get some Tea Tree Oil to put on it to see if that would help clear it up. |
sore I had a girl with a "chronic" sore on the side of her face. She was only a year..her teeth were fine..even had the vet xray them. The vet gave me a steroid spray.. The sore would almost go away and then return just as I thought it was totally gone. Whispersmom told me to use Tea Tree Oil...it worked in 3 days. Sore never returned. PS..many years ago Teri Shumsky told me about a homemade salve she made for sores.. Flowers of Sulphur..a powder bought from the druggiest (cheap) add olive oil and make a paste. I was a groomer and got many Yorkies with all sorts of skin problems..I used the paste on ones with sores from fleas etc.. Best wishes |
My breeder said she had a homemade salve that she said was nasty and smelled really bad but swore it would get rid of the sore. I was at the beauty supply store yesterday and saw Tea Tree Oil but did not even think of that! I know some bulldog breeders who use Tea Tree Oil for hot spots...I will get some and try it...I need to clip all the hair away so it won't gunk up and get him going on that...like I said, I think it bothers me more than him...I just hate for him to have that icky sore all the time. I love to rub his neck and always run over that old spot. Thanks Pat for all your help! |
You need to make sure you get tea tree oil that is especially made for pets. If you use the stuff that is made for humans it can harm and even kill your dog. |
I will do a search and see if I can find one recommended for dogs...or do you know a name brand or where I can get it? Thanks! |
