HOw much to feed 9 month old I have a 9 month old puppy and I feed him 3 tablespoons of Evolve dry dog food mixed with 2 tablespoons of Nutro Natural Choice wet food twice a day. Is this enough food for him? The reason I ask is because he always seems to be hungry. If I give him a snack in the afternoon he looks for more food. If some of our food falls on the floor he eats it up. How much should I be feeding him? |
Reuger's about 9 months old. I let him free feed. I put out about a cup and a half of food at a time. It lasts him a couple of days, more or less. I don't give him a certain amount because I think that some days he could be more hungry than other days. |
I free feed Oscar. He is 18 months old and his bowl holds about a cup and a half...it takes him four days to eat all of the food, so less than a half a cup a day...some days he eats more, some days he eats less. Oscar is a nibbler. He will run to the bowl when he is playing and grab a bite of food. He NEVER just stands at his bowl and eats...never has either. A friend of mine has a Bichon that she feeds a rationed amount twice a day...he acts hungry all the time too... |
When you free feed, do you only put dry food or do you mix it with wet? That might be a good idea to do because he seems to be hungry all the time. |
When I free feed Oscar it is just dry food. He never gets wet food at all. I am afraid if I ever feed him the wet he won't eat the dry! I had a Chihuahua that I fed Little Ceasers and she would never eat anything dry again. Oscar loves his dry food so I will keep him on that...as my hubby says "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" |
I agree with Oscar's Mom. I only feed dry food too. Reuger doesn't stand at his bowl to eat either. He takes a bite and carries it somewhere else to eat it. |

Puppies are growing so fast and so much that they can eat almost as much as a grown dog -- actually the amount that some dogs eat decreases when they reach full size. I feed my wet dog food in the morning - and leave dry dog food out for them all the time (which they really don't like and don't eat often - but at least I know it's there, if they get hungry). Evenings - shame on me - is when they get people food - my leftovers, etc. But I do only feed them healthy people food and food that is good for them - no junk food. Carol Jean |
Good idea. I guess I will have to try this too. His appetite has been less this past weekend though. I guess dogs are like people, somedays they aren't as hungry as others. |
