Really scared continued! Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I went and got Romeo from the vet, I want about to leave him there all night! The reaction has spread from his muzzle to his eyes and now it is in his ears..... They are swelled up so large that they are no flopped over.....poor baby...anyway, the vet said that there have been people who died in our county due to lepto in a lake.....I am so furious that I wasnt asked about the injection first, especially since I took them the papers from my breeder that say ...DO not use lepto injection until 1 year of age, due to side affects.....anyway, I talked to a man who came into my workplace today and he has had 5 yorkies, he gave me the name of a really good vet, so i will be taking Romeo there next time...oh yeah!! my vet said the reaction is no big deal and that he sees it about 1 time every two week, it seems pretty serious to me!!! Look at my little guy, his ears used to perk right up, now they are heavy and weighted down with swelling, just look.... |
4 Attachment(s) He looks so pitiful! :( |
When will it go away? Poor baby. He will be in my prayers. Hope he feels better. |
The vet said in most cases the reaction side affects last about 1 to 2 days.,,, he said once the swelling goes down, his ears will perk right back up....however, I dont know about anything he says |
Hugs and kisses to you and your Romeo. I hope he is better soon. This has been a learning experience for me also. I didn't have the first clue lepto was bad for them. I am glad you are getting a new vet. I am wishing Romeo a speedy recovery. |
I'm so glad you brought him home! |
okay so now when he goes to the new vet there should be no problem BUT just in case I should tell him he is extremely allergic to Lepto right?! |
Yes I would relay your whole experience so he can watch him on all shots. |
im a little late on this post.......... but, from what you said, the vet gave youre baby a shot WITHOUT youre knowledge???? Isn't there any channels you can go through to punish youre vet??? i dont mean to sound "law suit happy" but seriously..... if it was clearly written on his paper work and it was done without your knowledge then you should get some compensation. . . is the vet charging you to keep him there even though it was their fault??? |
Poor little Romeo - I read your first thread and my heart just stopped reading all the posts. I am glad you went to get him and he is home with you now. Thank goodness another vet has been recommended to you. Yeah to both you and Romeo. Schatzie send him puppy hugs! :aimeeyork |
I would have to agree. I would think at least any charges from this reaction should be voided. If they charge you it is like them saying you get to pay them to make your baby sick!. My Vet checked all the paperwork and made me aware of stuff before hand. Although, I never did hear of this lepto, but it wasnt one of the vaccines they gave. |
oh no...I'n not being charged now.....that tells you that they know they did wrong |
Oh, little Romeo is so lucky to have you for his mommy. I am so glad you found a different vet. The other one was just not thorough enough, and not familiar enough with little dogs. He is acting so blase' about this as well. It scares me that other little puppeies are suffering too, what did say, one every week or so? That is just terrible! Anyway, I am glad he is home and will be better soon.We all learned a lot from your experience. Thanks for sharing! |
Nervous This is all making me so nervous. I just bought a puppy wellness program at my vet that includes 2 complete physicals, 2 distemper vacs, 2 bordetella vacs, 2 lyme vacs, rabies vac, fecal check, one deworming and 10% off of spay. This package is for puppies 12 weeks and older and the vacs are given at 3-4 week intervals. The breeder gave Lucy at 7 wks of age a Univac 7 (which I have no idea what that is) and another Univac 7 at 10 wks of age. I brought Lucy to the vet at age 12 wks (which was last saturday) and she rec'd under this package a DHLPP vac #2, canine lyme disease and bordetella as well as a dewormer. So the reminder sheet for when I bring her in at 3-4 weeks from now states DHLPP vac annual, bordetella vac annual and canine lyme disease annual. My questions are, how many shots of DHLPP did she have already??? Because my vet receipt from when I brought her in at 12 wks states DHLPP vac #2. So did she have 2 already and in 3-4 wks from now she will get a third one or will that be her 2nd one? If she already had 2, do you think it is safe for her third one (if they get 3) if she hasn't had a reaction so far?? Am I making sense? HELP!!! I feel so bad for Romeo and his family and am scared to go through the same experience! |
Here is what I found on Univac7 Canine 7-way vaccine for the immunization of healthy puppies and dogs against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza and leptospirosis. Contains modified live distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus (canine origin), leptospira. If your pup has already had 2 sets of shots at the breeder then you don't need that many vaccinations (IMO) I've always been told you can get their adult booster at 16 weeks and they don't need anymore for at least a year. |
