Thanks. I will check those out. |
I give my pup a bath once a week when we get home from her obedience class. She NEVER smells like dog until we go there. I think all the other dogs odors are rubbing off on her. ICK! |
They get a bath once a week. Saturday morning is bath day. |
I would be interested in the "shower" idea. How do you go about it and how does it work? I would love to try it. It sounds faster and cleaner. Zoey's mom |

OK, I've got it. The book Living With a Yorkshire Terrier by Richard Haynes, states, "Bathing With the majority of dog breeds, it is recommended to keep bathing to a minimum in order to retain the natural oils in the coat. The Yorkie's coat is free from oils, and so it needs to be treated like human hair and washed frequently. A Yorkie will need bathing at least every two weeks, and many owners get into the routine of bathing on a weekly basis." Hope that helps. I guess our yorkies are very unique in more ways than one. No wonder we think of them as babies. |
Bath Time.............. I give my two boys a bath every two weeks. Only inbetween is they have an accident or get really dirty. I don't want to dry out their skin...... :) |
I don't have a set day of the week to bathe my babies, but I try to bathe them once a week. Sometimes I go longer, but Joy tends to really get stinky so when I can smell her...it's definately time. And, I never go more than 2 weeks. In between baths I take a damp washcloth and wash their faces around their eyes to keep the eye boogers at bay and even wash their beards. Then wipe their hoohoo's and hiney's to freshen them up so they don't get things stuck. |
Onces a week, and every 6-8 weeks to groomer with inbetween nail trims ! |
Congratulations on your new babies, they are adorable. Quote:

Yorkie's hair is very much like ours and a weekly bath shouldn't hurt them. My daughter's two dogs are in the water swimming several times a day - from May through September when they are out at the lake. So - water obviously doesn't hurt a dog. Therefore, it is probably the soaps and other products we use that are causing whatever problems we might be having ......which tells me that the more often you bath your pet - the more careful you need to be about the products you use. ----------------------- My sister's vet told her to wash her dog prn (as needed). He said that if their dog stayed clean in the winter for several weeks (skip the baths), but if he wanted to roll in the dirt and horse manure daily in the summer (which he almost did), he was going to need a lot of baths ----or a new home!!!!! After asking this same question myself awhile back, I now bathe Ginger EVERY WEEK. We're both happier. also, in Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies: A Reference for the Rest of Us! it recommends on page 158 that your yorkie is bathed weekly or bi-weekly "depending on how dirty your dog gets |
