Don't Get Baby Teeth Pulled? Biggie is 2 and almost a 1/2 years old and new teeth seem to be growing in while some of his baby teeth are still there. I was reading in other threads that ppl get their babies teeth pulled when they are "under" for neutering... But my question is... Do your baby pup's have to get their teeth pulled?? Does it effect their health if they overlap aside from vanity? Right now, I'm not in a position to pay for Biggie to have his teeth pulled [I'm a poor college student!] The Vet said it would be a couple hundred dollars. If it is necessary I would save up for it this year, but I'm unsure if they NEED to have their baby teeth pulled? Also, how frequently should we brush our dogs teeth & is a professional cleaning necessary? |
IMO They should be removed. His mouth was made for only one row of teeth. If you want to brush your dogs teeth, do it daily. Otherwise is does not work. :teethysmi |
I have to get 4 of my coco's teeth pulled but a couple a hundred dollars is a lot. My vet recommended it because it can cause decay on the permanent tooth next to them. So i intend to do it as well but I do not want to put her under again, because she is not even 3 pounds :*( |
Has your dog been spayed? If not, have the teeth pulled when they spay. Our vet only charged $6 apiece to pull 6 teeth along with teeth cleaning as she had to be put asleep anyway for that. Our other one is going to be fixed the end of next month when she turns 6 months. We'll also have the chip put in at that time and have any baby teeth pulled if necessary. Maybe your vet will let you pay by the month or whatever. Ask - he can't do any worse than say no. |
teeth It has nothing to do with vanity. One of the expenses with Yorkies is a life time of dental care. Food collects between rows of double teeth..this causes tartar and can NOT be brushed away. Tartar causes the gums to recede, that leads to tooth loss. It is not uncommon to see a 3 or 4 yr old Yorkie already lossing teeth if they are neglected. Another nasty problem is bacteria that grows in the tartar..it effects the heart and causes heart disease. I was at the my dentist this week and saw a sign about gum disease and the effects on the human heart...I told the dentist, dog breeders have known this fact for decades. |

If your vet is very conscietious about your pet, he may consider doing the surgery for you and letting you pay weekly or monthly payments. It really is to the best interest of your Yorkie to get the teeth pulled. If left, they can cause so many other problems and some serious. Just consider talking to your vet. |
My pup is 7 months old - he has a little of everything in his mouth - but nothing crowded at all. He still has most of his baby teeth - but does have a few new teeth coming in....and he has only one tooth on each side that is doubled. I'm keeping an eye on his teeth - and will have the vet look at them at our next visit. I am purposely delaying neutering - so that his teeth have more time to develop and come out naturally. The vet has already told me that some puppies lose their baby teeth and get their adult teeth sooner or later than other puppies. And - if we get some baby teeth pulled when they are being neutered - these same teeth may have come out on their own only a few weeks later. Carol Jean |
I just got Baby spayed this Thursday, and the Dr. only had to pull two or three (I don't even remember how many! ). I think he charged me $49. |
