Cali's in heat! I'm so mad at myself for not getting the nerve up to spay her before now. She started bleeding this morning. Do I have to wait 2 months now before I can get her spayed? I know not to let her near any male dogs which she never is anyway but anything else I should know or watch for? Thanks |
Check With Your Vet... As far as how long you should wait. But I would wait. Spaying during a heat or pregnant is more risky. I noticed my girls will mark while in heat. It's only natural. |
How old is Cali? |
She's 8 months old. |
If she sleeps with you pick up some panties or diapers for her or she will mess up your sheets. My Brandy is in heat now and keeps herself pretty clean but did leave lots of little spots on my bed which wasn't too nice. I bought a pack of newborn onesies and have her wear them to bed now. It helps a bit but this morning she woke up naked. |
I think a dog can be spayed anytime - but as one poster mentioned, it may be better when she's not in heat. I took my poor little cat in and got her spayed...and the vet told me that she had five kittens in her. Her spaying went just fine - but we were both surprised about the kittens. Obviously, she hadn't been carrying them long - and the one time she did have kittens, she remained so small and thin that I didn't even know she was pregnant until she had them. If she won't be getting pregnant during this heat, there is no reason not to wait. Good luck! Carol Jean |
Just went through it will Polly in Nov. She didn't bleed that much and kept herself clean. My vet recommended not to spayed her when she was in heat. Just had her spayed on Feb 27, had to wait till then because she had a false pregnancy, which I have since learned is common in yorkies after there first heat. |

Polly's tits got hard and had milk in them. They didn't get that big, but you could feel it. That was a week or so after her heat. Then about the time the puppies would be due she started to nest in her bed. Usually she is every where I am or with the other furbabies. that lasted a few days. She was spayed a week ago today. Polly is a little over a year old and is less than 3 lbs. She had a hard time being spayed, here breathing got shallow so they couldn't pull her baby teeth. She is fine now, but scared to poot out of me. Even though I got a scare I think it is best to spayed. I orders on Ebay "They New Complete Yorkshire Terrier" by Joan B Gordon. It is a great book that had good info about yorkies in heat. How is Cali feeling? |
