My baby has dislocated foot. I'm new here and I don't know what to do. My lab jumped off of the couch and landed on Jasmine's back foot. We took her to the ER and got X-Rays. My vet sent me to an orthopedic surgeon because she thought she may have a dislocation. The OS said she does and it would cost $1600.00 to fix. He wants to fuse it back together then splint it for 4 weeks. She is walking on it and does not mind us touching it at all. She is acting as normal as she always had she just limps a little. What do you do when you don't have $1600. I'm so upset because I want to fix this but don't know if I can. I also do not like the OS. He was very short with me. He told me the problem, how he'd fix it, how much and left. A total of 10 minutes and it cost me $100. The only other OS is 1 1/2 hours from me. Help Please!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/HPIM0191.jpg |
Oh No!! oh my gosh!!! i'm so sorry....that is horrible! i know how you feel though.....i wouldn't have that kind of money either being a poor college student. if i were you i'd probably get a second opinion though. Sorry i can't offer any good advice but i'm so sorry! i'll pray that it works out alright!!!! TyAnn |
i don't know much about a dislocated foot but i would try getting a second opinion just in case. i do understand where your coming from if nala needed some type of expensive surgery right now there is no way i would be albe to afford it and i would feel terrible about it. maybe you could have the xrays sent to the other OS and see what they think and tell them that she doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain. |
If you don't feel comfortable with the place, I'd say to find another place and try to get a second opinion. Some docs are like that, and I personally wouldn't take my Yoda to any place where we felt uncomfortable. |
Ok i don't mean to be horrible, but if it heals on it's own the way it is, how bad would that be? |
I am sorry your fur baby has been hurt and hope she feels better soon. I would seek out another OS, as it is so important to feel comfortable and trust the person looking after Jasemine. In regards to affording the surgery, many vet's offer payment plans for situation's like these. |
Thank you so much for everyones help and support. I'm going to get a second opinion. Right now she is in the yard running around playing with the kids. She couldn't be happier. Does that sound like a dislocation? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I would think she wouldn't want to walk on a foot that is dislocated. |
If she's acting normal and walking normal and not limping and let's you touch it without whimpering, maybe it's not dislocated? I don't know a second opinion or just give it a few days and see what happens. Maybe it was just a pulled or strained muscle. |
foot I wouldn't do anything right now. She would not be running around on it if it was broken or dislocated. |
This is why I'm so confused. I don't know if I should let it go or fix it. The only other OS that I can get a second opinion from is in Philly which is 1 1/2 hours away from me. I just took her for a long walk and you can't even tell that she has something wrong. She was running around and she wasn't even limping. Am I a bad person if I let it go for a while? I love her so much and would do anything for her. but to pay $1600 for something that may not need done. I don't think an OS is going to tell me that because he has to make a living also. I'm so glad I found this site. Thanks for your help. |
If she is playing and running and walking normal, I would say she's fine. |
Hmmm....I'd have to say that if she's running around like normal, taking walks without complaint, playing with her friends, etc...sounds like she's just fine! I've had a dislocated finger before & it hurt like *#$$ until it worked itself back into place...there was swelling & bruising & limited mobility...and that doesn't sound a bit like your Jasmine today! :) I bet her big-dog personality kept her on the move & her leg worked itself back into place on it's own. |
Sounds like she is already ok, but to be on the safe side I would definately get a 2nd and a 3rd opinion!!!! Hopefully she is ok!!!! Luigi sends puppy kisses!!! :animal-sm Mandy & Luigi :animal-sm |
I agree. I wouldn't do anything unless she doesn't use it, and it hurts her. It probably popped back into place. Thank God. And, forget going to an OS...just find a regular Vet around that you like, and go to him/her. Those specialists will always charge you the highest dollar! Good luck. She sounds like she will be fine. Whooo hooo! :p |
Thank You!!! Thank you to everyone for your help and support. I really appreciate it. I'll repost if anything changes. :animal-sm |
