Worms? Bear is getting very bony lately I can feel every bone just sticking out in his back and behind. I have made an appointment to see a vet early next week but am trying to figure out why he is losing so much weight. He is 2 1/2 pounds but I feel he needs to gain a good pound to be healthy. Do you think it could be worms? He is eating Innova puppy. Any ideas? |
How old is he ? |
1 Attachment(s) He is now 8 months old. |
Losing weight is not good. Both times Chachi lost weight he was sick with . diahrea. I quess it could be worms. Have you seen worms in the poo? |
He is eating like a horse, no diahrea, no throwing up. I can't see any worms at least none that are visible. He is just his normal happy self but losing weight fast. :( Daisy still is at a good weight, just poor Bear is affected. |
Yep he needs to be checked by the vet if he is eating well and losing weight something is wrong. I just went through an episode with Chachi where he lost weight. He had worms before though and didnt lose weight. |
It sounds to me that a trip to the vet would be a good thing. Doesn't sound good that he is dropping weight and eating good. Hmmmmmmmm Keep us posted.......... :) |
I agree sweetie...losing weight is not good and it could be nothing ...but you'd rather be safe than sorry. Make sure they check for hookworms too... I hope he's ok and just a little guy normally....he sure is cute ! |
You say he is eating "like a horse". How much and how often do you feed him? Does Bear have any "siblings" that might be snatching some of his kibble? This happened to my precious little Peppy before he came home. The person he was staying with had several dogs and at the time Peppy was a "fussy" eater. Before he would eat a bite, he would toss the kibble and run to get it, but before he could get his kibble one of the other dogs would scarf it up. Peppy lost almost 3/4 lb. this way. He went from 3.25 lbs. down to 2 1/2 lbs. before the problem was discovered. I agree that a trip to his vet for a thorough exam is in order. |

Bear is an ABSOLUTE babydoll! Is his stomach extended at all? Has he had any diarrhea? Usually these are good signs of worms.. Usually if they have roundworms or hookworms their stomach will be extended, big and round! If they have coccidiosis they almost always have diarrhea with it and sometimes bloody diarrhea.. Tapeworms they get from digesting fleas, but that should not be an issue this time of year and tapeworms are more unslightly than harmful.. I would take him into the vet and just have the vet check him out.. Keep us updated.. |

Thank you :) Tummy is small, not bloated at all. He did have the odd flea when I first got him but that was back in July and he was treated then. I was thinking it was worms but now his symptoms do not sound like it. The weight loss has been the last couple of weeks, could he have had tapeworms with no symptoms this whole time? And now they are showing the effects. Please keep my baby in your thoughts and hope he is ok. I will call our vet and see if I can get him in tommorow. I'll keep everyone updated. |

worms I would collect 3 stools and have them checked for all worms, especially hooks. Good luck |
Well I took Bear in this morning to the vet they kept him to do bloodwork, urine... and to deworm him. I miss him already. :( When they weighed him today he was 2.75 pounds at over 8 months, poor skinny baby. Please say a prayer for my boy and I will keep everyone updated. |
Thanks for the update on Bear.. I have been wondering the last few days how he was doing and what you might have found out.. Sending prayers Bear\'s way! Please keep us updated on Bear.. |
