Help! Legges Perthes My friends baby boy (Charlie) was just diagnosed with Aseptic Necrosis, which I think is the same thing as Legges Perthes. He is having surgery tomorrow. I have read things about this on different web sites, but I guess what I am looking for is some information from anybody who has delt with this personally. The family is pretty upset, since we all know these pups are family members. Thanks for any insight. Jeanne |

This disease is known to be hereditary and also can be caused by an injury. In Schatzie's case it was hereditary. We chose to keep her and have surgery rather than return her to the breeder for a refund. Her hair is still growing back from having the hip shaved and the vet said that she is healing wonderfully. |

surgery LP is very correctible. Your puppy should recover just fine in the hands of a good surgical vet. If you got a one year genetic guarantee, the breeder should be contacted. |

Lp A fair and reputable breeder should pay for the surgery..UP to the cost of the puppy. Any breeder who insists on returning the pup for a refund knows they are most likely home free. What pet owner wants to return their companion?plus LP can show up any time in 2 yrs or so. Perhaps if it showed up in the first few days the owner would not be as attached as a companion of a number of months. IF the pup cost $700 and the surgery is $900..the breeder only has to refund the $700 price. Treat people fair and it always come back to you. |
