my female yorkie won't eat hello. i have a female yorkie that just refuses to eat. since we first got her, its been a struggle to get her to eat anything. i also have a boy who eats EVERYTHING. i've switched dog food so many time that i've run out of dog food to feed her. does anyone have and suggestions for how i can get her to eat? she just recently went into heat, and my family and i might suspect that she is pregnant, so i would like her to eat so if in fact she is pregnant, she can give the puppies all the nutrition they need. please help if you can!! |
 Yesterday, I got a 5 month old Yorkie. Coco(his name), he doesn't eat the pebble foods this his former owner provided him. He doesn't like the canned, mushy foods yet -- nor does he drink water! The only thing Coco's nibbling on is the little bone nuggets(treats) that I give to him once in a while. I don't know why he's not eating his food, except for those nuggets. |
I would get nutrical for the pup and make sure she eats that, otherwise she could go into hypoglycemia episode. Do you suspect that she is pregnant because she your male is not neutered and they might have mated? Have you taken her to the vet?? I would first recommend you make an appointment with the vet, because this is a serious problem and every passing minute becomes more dangerous if there is something seriously wrong. Next I would go out and buy nutrical, and maybe a little dripper (to get some water into her), and maybe some gerber baby food to mix with her kibble. You can also do just broiled chicken with white rice and feed that to her. If she isn't taking any of those, there is something seriously wrong. Hope your baby feels better. |
It could just be the new environment. Try mixing cottage cheese or shredded cheese into his kibble. My dogs go crazy for the cottage cheese and I was able to get them to eat a prescription food they were on recently by mixing it. They wouldnt touch it without the cottage cheese. |
The thing is...I don't want to feed him any dairy or human food. |
I am not a breeder but I would take a possible pregnancy very seriously and take her to see a Vet. How long have you had her? If she has always been a picky eater, have you tried Natural Balance mean rolls? It's a good quality treat or main meal for picky dogs. If she is pregnant that's a whole other story. She needs special attention to her diet and I am sure the breeders under "breeder talk" will help. |
[QUOTE=lucyxp]The thing is...I don't want to feed him any dairy or human food.[/QUOTEThats completely up to you but I have read on here of other breeders who give the cottage cheese to thier pregnant dog because it is good for calcium. |
Hm, I see..but my dog is a boy. Sigh, I have to take him to the vet to get his booster shot tomorrow, so I'll ask them. Thanks, anyway! |
Sorry I got you confused with the original psoter but recenttly when my dogs had diahrea it was my vet that said to give them cottage cheese mixed in to their food to get them to eat it. Maybe just see what you vet has to say. |

Hope it works! |
Monitor them :dogwalk: NUTRICAL rocks! The only down side I've had with the product is the excess that they don't eat gets stuck and glues together their hair around their mouth. Make sure you feed them the proper dosage 3-4 times daily. And be wary of hypoglycemic shock. |
Oh yeah If you'd like you could brown some ground beef, drain the fat or course, and ad it to boiled rice (unsalted) and try to ween the puppy with that. It worked when Daisy was sick of Nutrical. Now she eats Royal Canin for Pups. |
my little girl was a fussy eater and the only way i could get her to eat which is going to sound funny is to hand feed and make plane and train sounds :D then make a big fuss of her after she eat it. |
My little man goes through stages like this where he won't eat. (even cottage cheese) What I do when he does this is keep some frozen Satin Balls in my freezer and pop a couple in the micro. He wolfs them down. The next day, for some reason, he'll start eating his food again. He's been a real trial to get him to eat. I've tried several foods but I've found that if I stick to one that he seems to like the most and don't switch he does better. We do Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. If he won't eat the food, I add cottage cheese. If he won't eat it that way, I sprinkle parmesean cheese. It's trial and error. I've even warmed his food in the micro. What can I say? Pampered and spoiled pooch.........won't eat cold dog food. |
