underweight Bambi Bambi seems underweight, bone skinny to me. I could feel his ribs. He doesn't like to eat his food ( i don't give him human food). Sometimes i would mix a few pea into his food or a shred of chicken breast, but he still doesn't eat much. Don't know what to do....anybody have babies that don't like to eat? |
Yes, My puppy was/is very picky. Is he a new pup?If so it could take him some time to get over the shock of travel and a new home. What food are you giving him? The best advice i got when Holly was doing this after I got her, was to mix her kibble with warm water to release the smell and make it more appealing. I went through about 4 different types until I found some she likes. Advance puppy under 6 months and Royal Canin 33 mini puppy. How much are you hoping he will eat?--I over estimated at first. Holly also likes raw chicken necks. I spent her first 6 weeks feeling her ribs, but decided I was expecting her to eat too much, too often. It did improve, she eats 2-3 meals per day at 16 weeks and has grown and filled out a bit at last. Hang on in there! |
I don't try to force Titan to eat. He just gobbles up his wet food and snubs his nose at the dry. He is just starting to drink water on his own without it being flavored. Just keep trying different foods to find what your pup likes. If you are worried maybe you could try to get her to take in formula in addition to kibble? I did this when I first brought Titan home to make sure he was getting enough. good luck! |
If he is small and you can feel his ribs or backbone, he may only nibble and not eat a lot a one time. My Tiffany is like that, she weighs 1.9 lb at 8 months. Just nibbles her food. I say as long as they are healthy and you are not having low blood sugar problems everything will be okay. Just make sure you are giving him food that has lots of nutrients in it and not filler. |
Just a thought to add to my earlier reply.I have read of a lot of people using a product called Nutri-cal or Nutri-Stat on this site. I have just ordered it-I live in New Zealand--from Petco on-line as i can't get it here. You might want to try adding that to his food. I'll let you know how I go with it when it arrives. |
Nutri Cal Hello, I had the same problem with Preston when he first came home... I gave him, and still do, Nutri Cal 2 times a day the size of a small pea. Sometimes I mix honey with water and give him 10cc's for calories. He loves both the honey water and Nutri Cal. I feed him Eukanuba Petite Breed food and add a tiny bit of water to make it soft. Good luck! |
problem Hi After the sorrow She Ra's mom just had, I would have a stool check done for peace of mind. |

what happened to She Ra? Bambi is 11months old. He's probably around 2.5 lbs. He seems pretty healthy and energetic, but i'm just very paranoid how little he eats and how bony he is. Maybe i'm just too paranoid...I'm just afraid he will not have a long life.. haha |
Don't worry -thin animals are supposed to be healthier and live longer than fat! If he eats better with stuff mixed in his kibble.then go with that.Add the Nutrical for your own peace of mind. Check with your vet-but I did this and they just said she was fine.Is your worming up to date? it's horrible-I have had sleepless nights worrying about my pup's eating.Finicky eaters are a nightmare. |
If Bambi has a clean bill of health, it just might be the way he's going to be. I would get some nutrical/nutristat.My Bugaboo is thinner then I like but I guess that's the way he is. |
