Doggy treats for training What do you all prefer to use as far as treats for training? :confused: |
I use cherrios and Yogurt Drops. They both can be cut/broken into small pieces and my babies seem to really respond to them :) |
Hmm, I never thought about using cheerios! That's a great, affordable idea! I taught my pup with PetSmart's small soft "training treats." It's what the trainer that works there recommended. I also heard that if you cut up a hot dog into small pieces and microwave them until they 're tough, I read that on the net somewhere. (Is that healthy? I've never done it. We're picky with Sully's diet.) But with the PetSmart training treats, I could break tem up into like six tiny pieces and Sully stil responded well. Sully also LOVES Pupperoni! :animal-sm |
Cheerios seems like a good idea and inexpensive too. How old does the pup have to be before you can start them on cheerios. I get my puppy in 2 weeks and he will just be 8 weeks. Leigh :D |
Tia's breeder actually gave us cheerios with her puppy pack, so she's been having them since she was about 12 weeks old :) |
For my training sessions with Carter, I use Nature's Recipe Training Treats from Petsmart. He LOVES them! He knows when he sees me grab my clicker and the treat container it is time for him to show me his stuff! This week, we tackled rolling over. Took less than 30 minutes. |
I just started using cheerios the other day because I figured it would be healthier then any of those meat treats especially if I'm gonna be giving it to him every time he goes in the box. At first I didnt think he liked it but now he loves em! He looks forward to them after he does his buisness! So I would def. say try cheerios, they are a big hit with Bentley! |

While the pup is in the act of sitting (or whatever command you give), you click and give a treat. They learn really quickly that click = treat and are extremely eager to do what you've asked. In the beginning, you click and treat for every successful behavior. Eventually, after your pup has learned all that you are wanting to teach, you begin reducing the amount of treats but still use the click on every success. :) |
I just started using a drop of syrup. Milo has not liked ne single treat we have bought. This seems to be working great!!!! |
