What's Cocashia? I was going to purchase another yorkie from a breeder but they wanted me to give it some kind of medicine because it had something called cocashia or some strange name like that. The breeder wouldn't say exactly what it was. She was strange about it so I didn't take the pup. I told her I would think about it because she said she didn't know if it was contagious, but she said it was nothing bad. Anything with a name like that can't be good. So I wanted to do some research. She said it would go away with the medicine. I am ify because I already bought a dog once that I brought home with parvo from a breeder. What do you guys think? |
Coccidia is a common infection that yorkies especially young yorkies get. When they have it they usually have bloody diahrea. I would not get the puppy either. |
You're talking about Coccidia...You can do a search on the net and find out about it...Here's a short description and a link for more reading. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_coccidia.html Coccidia are microscopic parasites that live within cells of the intestinal lining. Because they live in the intestinal tract and commonly cause diarrhea, they are often confused with worms. oops Chachi - we were posting at the same time...didn't mean to repeat you. and Chachi is right - there are puppies out there who aren't sick and you may want to keep looking.....At least the breeder is treating the puppies ....but if the one you wanted has it - chances are they ALL have it at her facility/home and she knows all about it. |

Thanks so much Thank you guys for all your info. The breeder knew exactly what was going on like one of you said and that alone is wrong. To not give the full details. So therefor I am just not going back there even if it is treatable. God knows what else it could have that the breeder is hiding. It's just to fishy now that I think about the way she acted. So it's a no go for me. I will find Daisy a boy yorkie elsewhere. Thanks again you guys. :aimeeyork |
I think you made a wise decision. Good luck on getting your new baby boy. It was nice of the breeder to let you know the puppy had this, but to me a superb breeder that knowingly has a puppy with this will do everything to clear it up before placing it into its forever home. You will find one from someone that really has the interest in knowing that the puppy is free and clear from these parasites. You also could ask for the vets report on the puppies vet visit history if there is any. We got ours when we got Baby Blessing. Kind Regards, Patti, Jack and Baby Blessing |
