Car Sick
 
Does anyone have any suggestions for a Yorkie that gets car sick? Does a small dose of a dramamine-like medicine work? Thanks for any info!

I know their are herbal things thatyou can get. I wouldnt give Dramamine unless you got the okay from your vet.

I've even heard that if you give regular gingersnaps before a car ride it's supposed to help. I should try it because Archie get's car sick no matter what :eek: ...

Dinkey got car sick when he was a baby. My vet said I could give him 1/4 tablet of dramamine non-drowsy formula. It worked wonderful! He has outgrown his car sick days..........thank goodness! His car sickness didn't last very long, maybe a couple of months, if that long. I would call your vet and ask to be sure what to give your furbaby. Good Luck!!!!! :)

My vet told me not to feed Martini before I put her in the car. That worked for me.

Hello my fellow yorkie lovas.. I just bought "Comfort Calm" Doogie bites at Petco for my sammy.. I haven't tried it yet..and wanted to see if anyone here has tried it. Its supposed to work for Home alone and Travel (also loud noises,thunder or fireworks). Sam also has a really hard time in car rides.. he pukes and poops :rolleyes:

Car Sick
 
When I first got Bogey the breeder told me to give him 1 Bonine tablet, (OTC), before traveling any great distance with him. He had a Bonine the day we picked him up from her because she had been traveling back from a dog show out of state. He seemed more tired than he should. On ordinary, short distance, (1 hour or less), straight highway driving he is fine. However, on longer drives that may include back roads, etc. he does not do well. When we were taking him on a 2 hour drive to see our newer Yorkie, @ 2 hours away, I asked our vet what to do. He said that Bonine is the pill of choice and we both agreed that I should cut the pill in half. This worked great when we returned to pick up our newer Yorkie and there was no prolonged tiredness as there had been before.

However, DEFINITELY CONSULT WITH YOUR VET BEFORE TRYING ANY MEDICINE.

My vet also recommended the Bonine tablets for Abbie. She does not travel well at all. She gets so anxious in the car (mostly when it is a ride that lasts longer than 30 minutes) that she makes herself sick. During the last 2 trips I gave her 1/2 of a tablet and she was much less anxious. She was almost as relaxed as Max is when he's in the car. It also didn't seem to cause drowsiness either. I'd check with your vet to see what he/she recommends.
