Info on Nutri-Cal? Hi! I just got my first yorkie! She is 8 weeks old and she doesnt really eat that good. Also she will only eat if I hand feed her royal canin 33 puppy food mixed with baby food piece by piece. She eats a little less than 1/8 cup at a time 3 times a day. I have been giving her Nutri-Cal twice a day after meals to make up for her not eating well. Is this a good thing to be doing? Ive been trying to find more information on Nutri-Cal from the internet but I havent really found out what I want to know. I just want to know if it is safe to give her the Nutri-Cal 2 times a day. I read on some forums people giving their yorkie Nutri-Cal 2-3 times a day. If anyone could explain Nutri-Cal a little better for me that would be great! -Cindy :) |

Tatum weighed right at 1 pound when we got her at 9 weeks. The breeder sent a tube home with us with a little explanation about it. We used it 2 or 3 times a day at first when she was being a picky eater. Now she is almost 2 years old and weighs 5 pounds. When she has been playing real hard outside with Stormie (the Aust. Shepherd), we'll give her a dab. We call it her "go-go juice" and she knows what that means when we ask if she needs some! Basically, it's used to keep their sugar levels normal since these little dogs sometimes have a problem with that. You just have to remember that 15 minutes of really hard play-time can be a lot for them and they need to rest and rejuvenate afterwards. |
Molly is eating! Hi! Thanks for the advice! Molly is eating a LOT better now! Its a miracle! lol! Instead of feeding her ceasers canned food mixed with dry food im feeding her beef baby food mixed with dry food. She seems to like it a lot better. She didnt really like the canned food which was very surprising to me but she really likes the baby food! Im still giving her the Nutri-cal at night because I give her her last meal at about 9:30pm and the next time i feed her is 8:30 am so its a while to go without eating, even though I do leave her some dry food sitting out over night. -Cindy |
I just posted this on another thread...but I'll post it here for you! :D When Baby wouldn't eat when I got her (almost 3 months old) the vet gave me Hills Science Prescription diet b/c it's high calorie. Now, I know it's not the "best" food for your Yorkie, but you have to get her to eat, right? And I think it's better than Ceasars. I used to have to feed her by hand...wet, dry, Nutrical, AND water for a few weeks. Now she's 5 months old TODAY, and she eats all by herself! Yippee (I've since switched to Chicken Soup and Royal Canin) Just keep hand feeding her. My mom was telling me, "don't feed her by hand cuz then she'll never eat out of her bowl." That's not true (in my experience) b/c she needed to eat to avoid a hypoglycemic episode. Oh, and you can give your Baby Nutrical 3-4 times a day if you want. It's just glucose (sugar). The vet told me it wouldn't harm her. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Now, don't give her the whole tube, though! LOL :D Good luck!! |
Good Job Molly! :good job: Keep up the Good Apetite. ;) |
